    The emerald-studded sword...

    Story
The witch mother of an hideous horned demon called Fulad-zereh.
Fulad-zereh meaning "[possessing] steel armor," is the name of a huge horned demon in the Persian story of Amir Arsalan....
, used a charm to make Fulad-zereh's body invulnerable to all weapons except the blows of a specific sword called Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar.
This blade originally belonged to King Solomon, and was carefully guarded by Fulad-zereh, not only because it was a valuable weapon, and indeed the only weapon that could harm the demon, but also because wearing it was a charm against magic. A wound inflicted by this sword could only be treated by a special potion made from a number of ingredients, including Fulad-zereh's brai.

The Sword of Saladin is a Holy Avenger in the form of a scimitar.

    Story
In 1076, the Muslims had captured Jerusalem (by Saladin Armies)- the most holy of holy places for Christians. Jesus had been born in nearby Bethlehem and Jesus had spent most of his life in Jerusalem. He was crucified on Calvary Hill, also in Jerusalem. There was no more important place on Earth than Jerusalem for a true Christian which is why Christians called Jerusalem the "City of God".

However, Jerusalem was also extremely important for the Muslims as Muhammad, the founder of the Muslim faith, had been there and there was great joy in the Muslim world when Jerusalem was captured. A beautiful dome - called the Dome of the Rock - was built on the rock where Muhammad was said to have sat and prayed and it was so holy that no Muslim was allowed to tread on the rock or touch it when visiting the Dome.

Therefore the Christian fought to get Jerusalem back while the Muslims fought to keep Jerusalem. These wars were to last nearly 200 years

whosover takes up this blade shall wield power eternal,
just as the blade rends flesh, so must the power scar the spirit.

Such was the warning given to all who would seek to wield Frostmourne, the most powerful runeblade in all known existence.

Years ago the awesome and terrible Lich King sent a plague of undeath into the world of Azeroth from his seat of power, the Frozen Throne. The sickness spread across the land, corrupting and destroying all it touched .Worse, every human who died of the plague became a mindless soldier of the the Lich King's growing undead army, the Scourge.

Driven to save his homeland from disaster, Prince Arthas Menethil joined Muradin Bronzebeard in seeking out the legendary runeblade, Frostmourne.

Arthas intended to use the blade's power to defeat the Scourge, but instead the sword stole Arthas' soul, robbed hiw of his sanity, and ultimately compelled him to usurp the throne from his father, King Terenas Menethil II. Arthas plunged Frostmourne through his fahther's heart and in so doing forfeited the remaining vestiges of his humanity to his new master, the unseen agent of his downfall ; the Lich King.

At the Lich King's urging. Arthas used Frostmourne to shatter the Frozen Throne .He then merged with the Lich King, creating one astonishingly pwerful entity of devastating evil. To this day it remains a mystery wheter Arthas choose this fate, or merely played once again into the hands of diabolical master.

Today, the new Lich King sits on his icy throne, silently plotting his next move, the cursed runeblade Frostmourne ready at his side.

Frostmourne has the ability to drain life from its victims — and to drain the soul of anyone whom it connects to. The Lich King is capable of seeing through the eyes and hearing through the ears of anyone who wields Frostmourne; this ability cannot be stopped by any mortal means. The Lich King can communicate with the wielder at will telepathically, on any plane and at any distance. The Lich King uses this ability to try and corrupt the wielder over time. This has several effects. An individual who wields Frostmourne will not part with it willingly. Over time the person will go from good to neutral and finally to evil. A non-undead evil wielder will then become undead. Finally the sword is able to suck the being's soul into the sword. Frostmourne then retains the memories and skills of its victim. In fact, as long as the wielder's original body remains within one mile of Frostmourne, the sword maintains control of the body, and he may not be completely aware that his consciousness has shifted to the weapon. Beyond one mile, the sword cannot control the wielder's body, and the wielder of course finally becomes quite aware of his current state (if he is not already).

The Lich King can take possession of a soulless body that comes in contact with him and Frostmourne at the same time. The soul within Frostmourne is destroyed unless it willingly merges with the Lich King, becoming lost as a separate entity for all eternity. If a soul merges with the Lich King, he gains all the skills and memories of the victim. He has only done this one time, with Prince Arthas Menethil

    Sword of Dyrnwyn
    [IMG]
Owner Rhydderch Hael (one of the Three Generous Men of Britain/Welsh Triads)
    Source Welsh legend

    Descript.
Dyrnwyn mean "white hilt". When drawn, it blazed with fire...

    Story
If drawn by a worthy man, the fire would help him in his cause, but its fire would burn the man who drew it for an unworthy purpose.

    Chronicles of Pyridain (Fiction)
The story begins as the Assistant Pig-Keeper Taran, his companion Gurgi, and the crow Kaw return to Caer Dallben to find that the Princess Eilonwy has returned from the island kingdom of Dinas Rhydant. After Taran's adventure of self-discovery in Taran Wanderer, he realized that all he wants to do now is be with Eilonwy, even if he isn't of noble blood.

Before he confesses his feelings to her, however, he is interrupted by his old comrades in arms, the bard-king Fflewddur Fflam and Gwydion, Prince of Don. Gwydion is badly wounded and seeks refuge in Caer Dallben. It is later determined that Arawn, using Taran's form as a disguise, lured Fflewddur and Gwydion into an ambush and seized from Gwydion the black sword Dyrnwyn. As the magical black sword is pivotal to the downfall of Arawn, Dallben consults the oracular pig Hen Wen to determine what must be done. However, Hen Wen's prophecies are discouraging and vague, and the last reading causes the magical letter sticks, used to interpret the oracles, to shatter.

As the companions are once again gathered, it is revealed that war now looms on the horizon. Taran and his companions, under the Banner of the White Pig (made of an embroidery Eilonwy presented to Taran on their reunion), begin to go through the lands Taran had recently wandered through in his past adventures in an effort to gather supporters for the coming battles ahead. The forces gather at the royal seat of Caer Dathyl.

However, at the war council, King Pryderi, leader of the most powerful army of Prydain, announces that he has switched allegiance to Arawn. On the fields before Caer Dathyl, Gwydion leads Taran and the forces of Prydain against Pryderi and his army in a great battle. Even as the tide of battle appears to turn in favor of the Sons of Don, a legion of Arawn's undead soldiers, the Cauldron-born, arrives from Annuvin and with the armies of Pryderi, is able to force the Sons of Don to retreat into the surrounding hills. The Cauldron-Born breach Caer Dathyl's defenses, and raze the mighty fortress to the ground, capping a major victory for the forces of Annuvin, which includes the death of Llonio Son of Llonwen and the High King Math himself.

By sending his undead warriors out in such force, Arawn has left his realm relatively undefended. Gwydion, now ascended to the position of High King, realizes that time is short, and that the Sons of Don must make an immediate strike at the very heart of Annuvin. Gwydion quickly lays out a plan in which he will lead the brunt of Prydain's forces in a direct assault on Annuvin, while a smaller force, led by Taran, will intercept the Cauldron Born and attempt to delay their return to Arawn's aid.

While the Companions are struggling to reach Annuvin, King Pryderi leads a small force to Caer Dallben, where, on instructions from Arawn, he hopes to accomplish a two-fold task: 1) to slay the wizard Dallben and 2) to seize The Book of Three. Dallben uses his powers to drive off Pryderi's warriors without harming any of them (to use his powers to kill would mean his own death), but Pryderi struggles through to face Dallben in his cottage chamber. Pryderi attacks Dallben, but his sword shatters on Dallben's staff. Dallben reveals to Pryderi that Arawn has betrayed him, that Arawn never had any intention of sharing his power with Pryderi and had sent him to Caer Dallben knowing that he would never leave it alive. Furthermore, Dallben knows that The Book of Three would never serve Arawn and that in it Pryderi is already marked for death. Pryderi tries to seize the book, but the moment he touches it a bolt of lightning issues from it and strikes him dead.

From this point forward, the prophecies of Hen Wen begin to come true, leading up to Taran finding Dyrnwyn buried beneath a massive boulder at the summit of Mount Dragon. In the face of certain death, Taran dares to draw Dyrnwyn from its sheath and for the first time is able to successfully wield the magical sword. Taran plunges the flaming black sword into the chest of the nearest Cauldron warrior and the power of the undead warriors is instantly broken. The previously mute and invincible Cauldron-Born release a collective wail of anguish and fall to the ground, turning the tide irrevocably in favor of the Sons of the Don. Soon after, Taran confronts the dark lord Arawn in the form of a venomous serpent at the gates of his castle and slays him, delivering the ultimate victory to forces of good. Even as Arawn dies, the power of Dyrnwyn, having fulfilled its purpose, begins to fade. Shining the light of her magic bauble on the scabbard, Eilonwy notices that the inscription is fully visible for the first time. Taliesin, the Chief Bard of Prydain translates the ancient runes, disclosing that the sword could only be wielded by a person of noble worth rather than noble birth, as it was originally believed.

The final prophecies of Hen Wen then come true, and like the power of Dyrnwyn, all magic begins to fade away from Prydain. Yet even as Taran and his friends return to Caer Dallben to celebrate, Gwydion informs him that Arawn's demise also means that those who still have the dwindling gift of magic, including those of the royal lineage of Dôn, will fulfill their final destiny by departing Prydain forever and returning to the Summer Country, their land of origin. Thus, Dallben, Gwydion, Fflewddur Fflam (who is distantly related to the Sons of Dôn,) and Eilonwy will leave Prydain. Although not of noble lineage, Taran, Gurgi, and Glew are invited to make the journey as a reward for their services to the kingdom, and to the Sons of Don. Overcome with joy, Taran embraces Eilonwy and proposes to her. She accepts and as their companions rejoice, Gwydion informs them all that they must make ready to leave, for this is to be their last night in Prydain.

That night, Taran, unable to shake off nagging uncertainties about his decision to journey to the Summer Country, is unable to sleep. As he stands at the window, the enchantresses Orddu, Orwen, and Orgoch appear before him, this time in the guises of beautiful women rather than as the ancient crones they previously appeared to be. They reveal to him that they too are leaving Prydain, and subtly press upon him the importance of decisions all men must face in their lives. They leave him with an unfinished tapestry woven on their magical loom which depicts events from his own life. Even as he ponders the meaning of this gift, Taran realizes that there is much work to be done to rebuild his shattered homeland of Prydain, and many promises he made to departed friends and companions during the war will go unfulfilled if he leaves.

The next day, as all make ready to journey to the Summer Country, Taran announces that he will stay in Prydain and finish what was left unfinished. His friends all give him farewell gifts -- from Doli an axe crafted by the Fair Folk of Prydain, from Glew a small purple gem from his cave on Mona, from Flewddur Fflam the one unbreakable harp string from bestowed upon him by Gwydion long ago and from Gurgi the secret knowledge of Prydain's master craftsmen which Arawn had stolen from men long before and which Gurgi had found in one of Annuvin's treasure caches. Eilonwy, fighting back tears, gives Taran her magic bauble saying, "though it may not shine as brightly as the love we might have shared... remember me." As she turns from him, she suddenly expresses her desire to Dallben to give up the gift of her magic powers, and remain with Taran in Prydain. Dallben then reveals that the power to do so lies within a ring that Gwydion gave her many years before (at the conclusion of The Book of Three). The ring will grant Eilonwy one wish -- but only that which is the deepest and most desperate desire of her heart. Following Dallben's instructions, Eilonwy turns the ring once upon her finger and wishes for her magical powers to be permanently dissolved. With her powers forever gone, Eilonwy joins hands with Taran and the two are joined in marriage with a simple ceremony performed by Dallben.

Dallben then gives Taran The Book of Three and reveals that this decision of Taran's was the last link in a path prophesied in the book wherein Taran could be the foundling of no station who, after the Sons of Don left Prydain, became High King. Thus, as all of his close friends finally depart for the Summer Country, High King Taran and High Queen Eilonwy step out of Dallben's cottage to greet the cheering crowd that has assembled, including many secondary and supporting characters from the series.

    Laxdœla saga story
It has come into the possession of Eid of Ás. Eid is the son of Midfjardar-Skeggi, who had originally taken Skofnung from Hrólf Kraki's grave. The sword is handed down from Eid to his kinsman Thorkel Eyjólfsson. Eid lends the sword to Thorkel to kill the outlaw Grim, who had killed Eid's son. Thorkel fought Grim, but the two became friends, and Thorkel never returned the sword to Eid.

Skofnung is briefly lost when Thorkel's ship is capsized while sailing around Iceland, and all of those on it drown. The sword stuck fast in some of the timbers of the ship, and washed ashore. It was thus recovered at some point by Thorkel's son Gellir, as he is mentioned carrying it with him later in the saga. Gellir dies in Denmark returning from pilgrimage to Rome, and is buried at Roskilde, and it seems Skofnung was buried with him (near where the sword was recovered from the burial mound in the first place) because the saga records that Gellir had the sword with him "and it was not recovered afterwards".

    to be continued......

    Tyrfing
    [IMG]
Owner The King of Gardarike, Svafrlami (the grandson of Odin)
    Source Norse Myth

    Descript.
Tyrfing was a powerful sword made by the dwarves and cursed by the same, a sword that would not rust or break, cut iron and stone and would be accompanied by Goddess of Victory in duel and battle.

    Story
    Creation of Tyrfing
The King of Gardarike, Svafrlami was the grandson of Odin. One day he had gone to a hunting trip. He saw two dwarves, Durin and Dvalin, standing by a stone and he lay a spell upon them. He wished to kill them but the dwarves asked for their lives promising a sword that would not rust or break, cut iron and stone and would be accompanied by Nike (if we express ourselves in a Roman way) in duel and battle.

The dwarves then gave him the sword a few days later but Dvalin cursed it saying that every time it was drawn, a man had to die and three great evils would the sword do. Svarflami tried to kill the dwarf but he fled. Then Svarflami named the sword Tyrfing and started wielding it.
    Passings of Tyrfing
A berserker, Arngrim from Bolm ravaged the lands of Svafrlami and Svarflami met him in battle. Then Tyrfing failed and got stuck in the ground after slicing through Arngrim’s shield – Arngrim removed an arm of Svafrlami and took Tyrfing and killed the King of Gardarike. Arngrim wedded Eyfura, daughter of Svafrlami and they had twelve sons.

These sons were fierce berserkers and one of them, Hjorvard, vowed to wed Ingeborg, daughter of Yngve of the Swedes. When they presented the wish to King Yngve, he became troubled. A man from the court, Hjalmar also then asked to wed Ingeborg and Yngve decided to have his daughter decide. Yngve chose Hjalmar. Hearing this, Hjorvard called Hjalmar to a duel on the island of Samso.

Angantyr, eldest son of Arngrim and Eyfura, wielded Tyrfing when they went to the island of Samso and there they went into berserkgangr and they ravaged the ships of Hjalmar. Hjalmar himself and his friend, Od, had however already left the ships.

In the middle of the island, Od and Hjalmar met the twelve brothers. There they decided to duel. Hjalmar went against Angantyr and Od against eleven others (one by one). Od won the borthers but was tired and wounded. Angantyr and Hjalmar killed each other. Angantyr was buried along with Tyrfing.
    Hervor
Hervor was the daughter of Angantyr and Svava, daughter of Jarl Bjartmar. She was born after Angantyr died. She enjoyed all arts of war and was skilled in fighting. When Bjartmar told Hervor of her parents she went to the island of Samso and called out to the dead to return Tyrfing to her. Angantyr and the others told her that it would be the doom of her kind but she still wanted it and got it.

Hofund, son of Gudmund of Glaesivellir, wedded Hervor and they loved each other. They had two sons – Angantyr and Heidrek. Heidrek liked to do evil while Angantyr was peaceful and calm. One day, Hofund organised a party but he didn’t invite Heidrek. Heidrek still came and he was allowed to stay. Heidrek managed to make the persons on the party kill each other and Hofund outlawed him for that. Hervor however told Hofund to let the boy go on his way and use advice. Hofund told him that: Never help a man who betrayed his master; Never help a man who murdered his companion; Don’t let you wife visit the relatives often; Don’t reveal your thoughts to your lovers; Don’t ride the finest horse when you are in a hurry; Don’t adopt a son of a braver man than yourself; Don’t break a vow of peace you’ve given; Don’t keep many slaves in your company. Heidrek then left but Hervor also gave him Tyrfing. However, Heidrek drew the sword and due to the curse he killed Angantyr. That was the first ill deed of Tyrfing.
    Second Evil Deed
Heidrek met on his way two men: one who had killed his companion and one who had betrayed his master. He freed both and let them go. Heidrek served Harald of Reidgotaland and helped him a great deal. For this, Heidrek gained his daughter Helga and they had a son, Angantyr. Harald also had a son – Halvdan.

Reidgotaland faced a famine and the priests told that the more noble son must be sacrificed. It was decided (by Hofund) that Angantyr was the more noble one but that for that, every second man in Reidgotaland mmust vow loyalty to Heidrek. On the ting, Heidrek drew his sword and killed Halvdan and Harald.
    Third Evil Deed
Heidrek had to go to a trip around his country but he rode fast, ahead of the nobles and only the slaves managed to keep up. Then, when the night fell, the slaves killed Heidrek and fled. This was the third deed of Tyrfing.

"Comrade, what dost thou?" said Roland. "Is it now the time to fight with staves? Where is thy sword called Hauteclere with its crystal pommel and golden guard?"

"I lacked time in which to draw it," replied Oliver, "there was such need to strike blows fast and hard."

But now he drew his shining Hauteclere from its scabbard, and with it he dealt such blows that Roland cried, "My brother art thou, Oliver, from henceforth. Ah! such blows our Emperor would dearly love to see."

Charlemagne gave Courtain to Ogier the Dane and Almace to Bishop Turpin, and initially kept Durendal for himself. Later he was told in a dream to give Durendal to Count Roland.

    Info
THE crowning of a king or queen carries the mind back to the Coronations of all those other monarchs who have been crowned before.

The ideal of hereditary monarchy can be viewed as a unifying one, binding together the current nation with those who lived before and those still to be born. From another perspective monarchy is a fairly primitive method of governance, now largely redundant.

As the eye surveys that glittering albeit blood stained chain of which every king is a link, one sees the very beginning of the race and of the State that has raised and preserved it. The King is mortal and dies -

    This is a sleep

That from this golden rigol hath divorced

    So many English Kings

But the institution of monarchy does not die with the death of the monarch, and instead continues its binding function from age to age. Yet at a certain point in a civilisation's evolution its monarchy will surely die too as is necessary for a true democracy.

Each Coronation is a presented as a sacrament at which the nation celebrates its beginnings, reaffirms its purpose, and dedicates itself anew. 'There is not one since the earliest days which is not full of significance to him that can read aright.'

Coronations are naturally associated with national rejoicing and gladness, though not all of them have been celebrated with gladness.

    Story
Colada is one of the two best-known swords, along with Tizona, of El Cid Campeador. Won in combat from the Count of Barcelona, the sword was presented (along with Tizona) to his sons in law. According to the heroic verses of the Cantar de mio Cid, after his sons-in-law beat his daughters and then abandoned them on the side of the road, El Cid asked his gifts to be returned. Afterwards, he bestowed the sword upon one of his knights, Martín Antolínez as a present, and he uses it in the duel against the infante Diego González.

Also known as The Sword of Light, the sword glowed with a bright light. It was irresistible in battle and had the power to cut his enemies in half. It is one of the Four Treasures of Ireland (the others being the Spear of Lugh, The Dagda’s Cauldron and the Stone of Fal).

    Story
The Celtic Pantheon: The mythological story of Nuada and Dian Cecht :
Once, in a land lost in the mists of time, there lived two brothers; sons of the great goddess Danu, who created all and of her husband Bile who was the destroyer.

The first brother was named DianCecht. DianCecht had a sharp mind and a sharp tongue to go with it. He was proud of his cleverness and scornful of those he considered his lessers in learning.
He was smaller and less outgoing than his brother but he knew all there was to know about medicine and healing magicks. He stood astride the gulf between his parents; as people lingered between life and death, there was DianCecht, god of healing.

Imagine him as small and sharp, both light and dark, both fire and water.

His younger brother, Nuada had a talent with people and was a fierce and successful warrior. He was handsome, brave and fair. Some say he was his mother's son and a water god, just as she was the goddess of the river.

His mind was practical and his judgments equitable. He too, created a balance between forces and his dealings with others were always just.

Imagine him as strong and thoughtful, both fierce and gentle, both earth and air.

As brothers do, Nuada and DianCecht often disagreed but when one was in need, the other came to the rescue.

Imagine a young DianCecht whose sharp tongue has gotten him into a fix with a bigger boy and a young Nuada standing up for his brother. Imagine DianCecht caring for his brother's bruises with herbs and teas when the fight was done.

As Nuada and DianCecht grew to adulthood, the time came, as it does to all boys and girls, to decide on paths for their lives. It was clear that Nuada had the spirit of a leader and he was made king of his mother's people, also known as the Tuatha de Danaan. He was a just and noble king and his people loved and respected him.

To Nuada at his coronation was given a sword forged by the druid Uscias in the island of Findias. This sword, known as the Sword of Light, was irresistible to any man who laid eyes on it and promised death to every man who stood against it.

The Danaan were, like many races of their time, often called to battle. Although Nuada possessed many weapons and battle horses as well as chariots for them to pull and charioteers to drive them, he preferred to take his battles man to man, when the situation allowed it.

Imagine Nuada too as handsome and brave and kind, for these were all things his people believed about him.

DianCecht, when he reached adulthood, was given a cauldron to use for the mixing and cooking of medicines and potions. The people of the goddess Danu took their ailments and injuries to DianCecht and he would brew the right concoction for relief of their symptoms.

It was widely known that while DianCecht could often be petty and jealous, he had the power to ease pain, suffering and death. DianCecht could heal any injury and purge any illness. He was what stood between the people and their demise.
Imagine DianCecht as quiet and mysterious, with the steam from his cauldron swirling about him. Imagine you can just barely see a frown of concentration through the mist and that in seeing him, you will surely be cured of what ails you, for this is how his people saw him.

Noone knows quite what caused the Danaan to leave their home islands but leave they did, taking with them but one treasure from each of their four islands and sailing to the south until they hit upon a land which was then called Erin, but which is now more commonly called Ireland.

On this journey was the king, Nuada and his surgeon and brother DianCecht. Their ships landed on a day when the fog was
heavy around the shore and it was either luck or providence which allowed a safe landing. Perhaps it really was magic, as the residents of Erin, the Fir Bolg, seemed to think. Regardless, something in the sudden arrival of the Danaan caused the Fir Bolg to approach them with caution.

The king of the Fir Bolg, Eochaid MacErc had had a dream prophesying the arrival of a formidable foe and so sent his top champion to meet the Danaan and impress them with his strength and ferocity. This champion was called Sreng and he armed himself with thick spears and a heavy shield for he did not know what dangers laid ahead of him.

Imagine Sreng as a courageous man, for it would take a lot of courage to face an unknown foe.

Sreng met with one of Nuada's champions. Called Bres, he was a warrior whose beauty was without equal. Bres was armed with a spear which was light and true. The two men were frightened and intrigued by the unfamiliar weapons held by their foes. They approached carefully and as they were both warriors interested in the art of war, they began to speak and compare their weapons.

Bres delivered Nuada's request for a share of the territory in Erin and the two men exchanged weapons as a gesture of good will.

Eochaid MacErc refused to give up any portionof his lands and a grand battle ensued.

Under the terms of battle, Eochaid was forbidden to send any warriors in greater numbers than those sent by Nuada.

Imagine Eochaid as a rash man, but true to his word. Honest in battle, he never broke the terms of fair competition.

Each time, the battles were won by the Danaan and a greater portion of Ireland was granted to them in victory. After each battle, Nuada repeated his request for a portion of Erin large enough to become home to his people and each time Eochaid, thinking of his dream, felt sure that in order to prevent his land from falling to a tyrannical king, the fight must go on. Each time it was with some sadness that Nuada sent his men out to slaughter the Fir Bolg.

After many battles, Eochaid had fallen and victory seemed certain when Nuada and Sreng met in the field of
battle. In that, the final, bloody battle between the Fir Bolg and the Danaan, Nuada slew Sreng, but in doing lost his arm.

As tradition demanded, Nuada's arm was buried in the ground as a fallen comrade would be and a small cairn of stones was raised around it.

The Danaan had strict rules forbidding the reign of any king who was not healthy and whole. A king who could not fight as a warrior was of no use to the Danaan and so it was that Nuada was forced to give up his throne and his chief warrior, Bres was called to the task.

Imagine Bres's pride at becoming king of a successful people and Nuada's disappointment to lose his standing in the field of victory.

Things between the two old friends grew bitter and Bres resisted Nuada's advices. He became a prideful and arrogant king and began demanding greater and greater tributes to his glory.

The Danaan were unhappy with the reign of their new leader and indulged in imagining ways in which the old king, Nuada, now aging and still without his arm, could become king once again. Nuadu's brother, Dian Cecht, was approached for his healing and guidance.

Now, Dian Cecht could cure wounds and it was said he could even reverse death, but regrowing something long gone was beyond even his powers.

Still, he felt the distress of his people and the sadness of a once great king, so Dian Cecht spent many nights in meditation, searching for a way to help his brother regain the throne.

Imagine Dian Cecht, still and silent and more mysterious than ever and the people all waiting outside his hut with the hope to be delivered from the tyranny of their leader.

One night, Dian Cecht took to the smithy and by morning he had formed a gleaming silver arm.

He called his brother to his hut and worked every healing spell he could think of, finally successfully attaching the new silver limb to the stump of his brother's arm.

The healing worked better than any could have hoped and some mysterious magic made Nuada able to flex the arm and fingers and use it just as he had used his own.

Nuada was reinstated to the throne and reigned once again, restoring peace and justice to his people.

Imagine Nuada, now called Nuada Airgetlm or Nuada of the silver hand, his face handsome and proud and his arm gleaming in the sunlight as he stands upon the stone of Lia Fail, which proclaims him king.

    Flamberge

    Owner Reinold of Montalban
    Source Song of Roland

    Descript.
It was forged by the smith Galas, and was one of nine blades shattered by Olivier's sword, Hauteclere. A single-handed sword with a flambard or flammard blade (wave-shaped edges).

    Story
Song of Roland : HOW REINOLD FARED TO CATHAY
YOU are curious to know how it happened that Reinold of Montalban had been entrapped in the castle of Forgetfulness to be liberated just in time to carry aid to the distressed Albraccans? I will tell you.

When the Princess Angelica returned to her father's dwelling, after that fateful day in the wood of Ardennes, she could not forget the noble form and bearing of the hero of Montalban, as he had appeared to her when she last saw him by the fountain of Merlin. So she ordered that Malagis the wizard should be freed from his dungeon beneath the sea, and brought into her presence. The little old man, very glad to see the light of day once more, bowed reverently to the princess, and humbly waited for her to speak.

"Knowest thou the French knight who is called Reinold of Montalban?" asked she.

"I do, most worthy lady," was the wizard's answer. "He is my cousin and my dearest friend."

"Listen, then," said the princess. "If thou wilt promise to bring this noble knight, by fair means or by foul, to Cathay, thou shalt have thy freedom, thy book, and thy wizard's ring."

The old man bowed low, and promised. He would have hazarded his soul for those things. He took his book and his ring, and without a day's delay hastened to return to France.

"Where hast thou been, wise cousin?" asked Reinold, as the dwarf bowed himself into his chamber.

"Only across the sea," was the answer.

"And what didst thou find across the sea?"

"A very great treasure, but it is guarded by a dragon so fierce and wakeful that I dared not go near it. Men say that this treasure has lain there for ages, waiting the coming of a hero brave enough to face the dragon, and strong enough to slay him. Methought that my cousin, Reinold of Montalban, might be that hero."

Very cunning were the wizard's words, and it was not hard for him to persuade Reinold to go in quest of the treasure. A ship with sails all set, impatient for the wind, awaited the knight as he rode down to the seashore. He stepped aboard, leading the horse Bayard behind him. A light breeze sprang up: the sails filled, and the ship sped gayly on its way across the sea. There was no one on board save Reinold and his steed; but the wizard had assured him that the ship needed neither pilot nor oarsman, and that it would sail straight to the shore where the treasure lay under the watchful eyes of the dragon. Two days the little vessel sped over the waves like a thing of life; nor did Reinold once doubt that the end of the voyage would be as the wizard had said. On the third day he came to a long, low shore and a goodly island, which seemed to be one large garden adorned and beautified with every thing that is pleasant to the sight. Close by the shore was a wondrous castle, the fairest that Reinold had ever seen. It was built of marble so white and clear that the walls seemed like great mirrors in which were painted the garden, the sea, and the sky. As the boat touched the shore, three ladies, handsome as fairies, came out of the castle, and greeted the knight.

"Welcome, brave hero!" said they. "Welcome to Joyous Castle! Welcome in the name of our queen, Angelica of Cathay!"

Reinold heard the name of the fair princess with loathing. He remembered her only as she had seemed to him after he had drunk from the mystic waters of Merlin's fountain. He thought of an old witch, haggard and toothless and crippled, blear-eyed and gray, mumbling her weird spells, and muttering curses. Such to him was Angelica of Cathay. How he hated and loathed her! He turned him about in the ship, and would not look at the fairy palace and the gardens, which were said to be hers. The breeze again filled the sails, and the little bark left the shore, and the marble towers of Joyous Castle were soon out of sight. And a great storm arose on the sea, and the waves ran mountain high, and the ship was at the mercy of the winds. A dark night came on, and Reinold was in fearful peril but he stood calmly at the helm, and cared not at all for the danger. In the morning the vessel ran upon a wild, rock-bound shore, and was dashed in pieces by the waves; but the hero and his horse escaped with great difficulty by swimming to the land.

The country in which Reinold now found himself was covered with a dark forest, where the owls hooted dismally, and the wolves howled, and the goblins of the wood held high carnival. As he made his way through the dense underbrush, and among the dead and decaying trees, he espied a low-built, gloomy castle standing in the middle of a marsh. He rode up to the gate, and called out loudly to the warder to open and let him in. For a time there was no answer; and, indeed, no sign or sound of life did he hear. Then, suddenly, there was a rattling of chains and a ringing of iron bars; and the gate flew open, and four giants rushed out upon the knight. Before he could draw his sword, or in the least defend himself, he was dragged from his horse, and bound with iron chains, and carried into the courtyard.

"Why this rudeness to a stranger and a knight?" he asked as soon as he was given time to speak.

The giants answered him not a word, but left him lying helpless and alone on the stone floor. After a while, an old woman came in to jeer and laugh at his mishaps.

"A fine morsel thou wilt be for the dragon," said she. "It is not often that he has a real Christian knight for his dinner, and thou wilt indeed make him gentle and gladsome."

Reinold asked the woman what she meant, and was told that on the morrow he was to be given to a terrible dragon who had overrun and ravaged all that country, and who could be appeased only by human blood.

"I fear him not," said the knight, "if they will but unbind me, and give me my good Flamberge."

All night long Reinold lay bound in the cold and desolate courtyard, while Bayard galloped hither and thither in the forest, seeking vainly for his master. Early in the morning the four giants came again; and, after unbinding Reinold, they threw him, with his arms and armor, into a deep-walled pit where the dragon was wont to come for his daily meals. The knight, glad to find that his limbs were free, and that his good sword Flamberge was in his hand, waited fearlessly for the coming of the monster. Not long, however, had he to wait. The horrid beast, his teeth gnashing with rage, and his nostrils flaming with poisonous fumes, rushed into the area, expecting to find, as usual, an easy prey. But Reinold attacked him bravely with his good sword, and made him pause in his hasty onset. Fierce and terrible was the fight that followed. The sharp claws of the beast tore off the knight's armor piece by piece. His head was laid bare; his hauberk and breastplate were broken; the strokes of his sword fell harmless on the iron scales which protected the creature's sides. Hard would it have gone with the knight, had not good fortune favored him. Six feet above his head a beam projected into the pit. He felt his strength failing him; the great jaws of the beast were about to close upon him. He called up all his energy, and with one mighty effort leaped upon the beam. He was safe. The dragon raged and fumed and threatened, but could not reach him. Yet how, after all, would the good knight escape? The walls rose, high and smooth, still many feet above him. There was no way to get out of the pit, save by passing the dread monster below.

While the knight sat half-despairing on the friendly beam, he heard a whirring of wings above him; and a fairy, which he at first mistook for a bird, alighted by his side.

"Most worthy knight," said she, "fortune comes always to the help of the brave. Now here are a ball of wax and a strong net, which you may use as your good sense may direct. But you must never forget that this aid has been sent you by the Princess Angelica of Cathay."

With these words the fairy flew away, and was seen no more. But Reinold wondered whether she were not really the princess herself in disguise. It was easy for him to understand what to do with the presents she had brought. He threw the cake of wax to the raging dragon below. Eagerly the beast seized it between his jaws, and, lo! as Reinold had foreseen, his teeth were glued fast together. Then, as the creature madly sought to remove the wax with his claws, it was easy for the knight to cast the net over him, and draw it tightly about his limbs and body. Helpless now, the great beast rolled upon the ground, an easy victim to Reinold's trenchant blade.

It was no hard matter for Reinold to find his way out of the pit, and into the wood again. There the good horse Bayard waited for him, and greeted his coming with a shrill neigh of pleasure. He looked around for the gloomy castle where he had spent so many miserable hours, but it was nowhere to be seen. He rubbed his eyes, and fancied, that, after all, he might have been only dreaming; for his armor was whole as ever, and his good blade Flamberge was clear and bright, and no whit tarnished with foul dragon's blood. He mounted his steed, and rode slowly and thoughtfully out of the forest. But just beyond, he came to the River of Forgetfulness and the bridge which spans it; and there, like Roland, he drank of the cup which the maiden offered him, and was led helplessly away to the care-forgetting castle of Old Oblivion.

Shamash intrudes on the battle, helping the pair, and Humbaba is defeated. On his knees, with Gilgamesh's sword at his throat, Humbaba begs for his life and offers Gilgamesh all the tress in the forest and his eternal servitude. While Gilgamesh is thinking this over, Enkidu intervenes, telling Gilgamesh to kill Humbaba before any of the gods arrive and stop him from doing so. Should he kill Humbaba, he will achieve widespread fame for all the times to come. Gilgamesh, with a great sweep of his sword, removes Humbaba's head. But before he dies, Humbaba screams out a curse on Enkidu: "Of you two, may Enkidu not live the longer, may Enkidu not find any peace in this world!"

Gilgamesh and Enkidu cut down the cedar forest and in particular the tallest of the cedar trees to make a great cedar gate for the city of Uruk. They build a raft out of the cedar and float down the Euphrates river to their city.

    @Feisch
    Mengenai Rhomphaia

So "Rhomphaia" was first ‘a spear’, later ‘a sword’...

    Jadi bingung ......

    Ascalon sama aj nih...
Dalam beberapa story Saint George, dikenal sebagai 'Lance', soalna pakaina sambil naik kuda, tapi di beberapa cerita yang lain dikenal sebagai sword...
