    John Hopkins breaks hand in test fall

    The American suffers yet another injury set-back just a month after having a finger amputated from the same injured hand.

    John Hopkins's preparations for the start of the 2012 World Superbike Championship have been dealt a massive blow after a fall during testing at Phillip Island damaged his recently operated on hand.

    Less than two weeks before the 2012 season gets underway around the Australian venue, Hopkins fell from his Crescent Fixi Suzuki during the opening day of an unofficial group test, which is being attended by almost the entire field.

    Falling without having set a time, Hopkins was taken to hospital where x-rays revealed he has broken a bone in his right hand – the same hand on which he had a finger amputated last month.

    Revealing on his Twitter account that the full extent of the break hasn't been determined and that he will be forced to return to the United States, the injury is another set-back for a man who has been hampered by a series of physical ailments during his racing career.

    “Well I'm absolutely devastated to announce that after a high speed crash I've broke a bone in my R/ hand! Severity is yet to be determined.

    “Unfortunately I'll be having to fly home tomorrow to be fully checked out by my "hand surgeon" and then make a plan from there.”

    Team manager Jack Valentine added that the team should know later this week if Hopper can race in round one. "Let's all stay positive and have John back soon," Valentine wrote on his Twitter account (@JackValentine_1).

    Should Hopkins fail to make round one, the second event (Imola) is not until April 1.

    Following a successful return to competitiveness in the British Superbike Championship last season, ex-MotoGP rider Hopkins is set to embark on his first full season on WSBK racing with the same Crescent Fixi Suzuki team.

    Hopkins was previously injured during testing at Phillip Island ahead of the 2008 MotoGP World Championship.

    The American, then preparing for his first Kawasaki season, suffered a torn abductor muscle on the left side of his groin, forcing him to ride through 'excruciating pain' during his ZX-RR race debut.

    Laverty fractures hand, may still race

    Eugene Laverty is determined to race on at Phillip Island, despite fracturing his hand in a high-speed off at the same circuit during testing.

    Eugene Laverty will attempt to race in the World Superbike Championship opener at Phillip Island, despite breaking a bone in his left hand in a testing accident.

    The Irishman fell from his Aprilia RSV-4 at the first turn, falling heavily on his left hand, impacting his right hand and also hitting his head on the track.

    "Brake pads got knocked back after a wobble entering turn one at 315kph. No brakes so I had to put the bike down. Big ole crash," he wrote on his Twitter account @EugeneLaverty.

    Taken to hospital for consultation, Laverty was diagnosed with a fracture of the third metacarpal of the left hand.

    The man himself, who is tipped as a title contender this year, was also quoted by GPOne.com as stating his intentions to not skip the opening round of the season.

    Laverty's injury comes after John Hopkins was forced to withdraw from the Australian curtain raiser after injuring his hand in an accident on the first day of testing.

    Pedercini Kawasaki's David Salom was also forced to skip two days of testing after also injuring his hand during the opening session.

Maurizio Flammini, President of  Infront Motor Sports, signed a contract on February 15 to bring back the FIM Superbike World Championship to Indonesia, after a gap of 15 years, for five years starting in 2013. The contract was signed in the presence of Minister Dr. H.R. Agung Laksono who coordinates the work of five different ministries that include the Ministry of Sport, as well as numerous leading figures from the worlds of politics, sport and business.
 
The Indonesian Government will furthermore start up the promotion of the event by means of the creation of a government task force that will sustain the economic, logistical, promotion and administrative requirements of the organiser.
 
Maurizio Flammini declared: "We are proud of the growth of the Superbike calendar, which thanks to the inclusion of the latest rounds is obtaining a presence in countries of major importance for the development of our championship on a sporting and commercial level. After Russia, where Superbike has now arrived before any other world motorsport championship, thanks to more than two years of intense work in the Asian area, we have now been able to insert Indonesia, which has in the past already played host to a race of considerable success and appeal, in the calendar.
 
Indonesia today is a country with the largest growth factors: GDP is more than one trillion dollars, with a 2011 growth of more than 6%, and the sale of bikes widely exceeds 7 million units per year. The Superbike race will therefore be a great opportunity for the motorcycle manufacturers present in our championship.
We are also negotiating with the Buddh International Circuit in India, where the Formula 1 race was recently held, in order to complete a presence in Asia that in this case will be absolutely extraordinary".
 
It should also be added that Superbike, together with its sponsors, teams and entrepreneurs, will be able to benefit from the agreements that Maurizio Flammini, as President of FEDERLAZIO and PMItalia, organisations that represent more than 30,000 Italian firms, has started with the Indonesian Government to set up close collaboration between the companies of the two continents and the creation of B2B opportunities.
 
The Sentul Circuit has its own particular fascination, both due to its natural environment in the middle of a tropical forest, and due to its technical and design features.
 
Indonesia also makes up an extraordinary market for bikes, with a total of  7,400,000 units sold in 2010 and an estimated 10% increase for 2011, a figure that will shortly be available. In addition the Government also provides subsidies for fuel used for circulation on two wheels.
 
The date for the Superbike round will be decided shortly. The two possibilities being considered are at the start of the championship together with Australia, or the final round of the season.
 
Paolo Flammini, CEO of Infront Motor Sports, declared: "The arrival of the Indonesian round in the Superbike World Championship calendar confirms the growing interest in our series and undoubtedly helps to complete a championship that touches all the world's motorcycle markets and which continues to offer increasingly significant  opportunities for the motorcycle industry, sponsors and media".

    Biaggi Menang, Checa Gagal Finish di Race Pertama

    Perjuangan Max Biaggi untuk meraih kembali kedigdayaannya tahun 2010 lalu, akhirnya mulai terlihat lagi di World Superbike Championship (WSBK) Australia pagi ini (26/2). Pembalap asal Italia itu langsung mengantongi kemenangan telak dengan selisih yang cukup jauh dari pembalap kedua.

    Kemenangan tersebut tentu jadi bukti kuat bahwa tahun ini pembalap berjuluk The Roman Emperor itu sudah siap meraih kembali titel juara dunianya yang melayang di tahun 2011. Sayangnya prestasi Biaggi tidak diikuti dengan baik oleh Eugene Laverty rekan setimnya. Laverty bahkan tidak menyentuh garis finish.

    Di podium kedua Marco Melandri tampil sangat apik dari posisi start 13. Walaupun awalnya Melandri cukup yakin bisa mengejar ketertinggalannya dari Biaggi di lap-lap terakhir, namun ia terhalang beberapa pembalap di depannya seperti Sylvain Guintoli dan Tom Sykes. Tapi hasil ini sudah berbicara, bahwa potensi motor BMW tidak kalah hebat dengan motor lainnya.

    Guintoli yang tahun ini masih memperkuat tim Effenbert Ducati, juga tampil sangat agresif. Meski tidak bisa menjaga ritme terbaiknya dengan Biaggi, tapi pembalap asal Prancis itu mampu mengamankan podium ketiga. Kemudian disusul Tom Sykes di posisi finish keempat yang tidak mampu memberikan perlawanan pada Guintoli dan Melandri.

    Salah satu pembalap papan atas yang diharapkan memberikan persaingan cukup ketat adalah Carlos Checa. Tapi sayangnya juara dunia WSBK 2011 itu terjatuh di lap kelima dan harus mengakhiri balapannya di sesi pertama dengan kekecewaan besar. (otosport.co.id)

    Checa Akhirnya Rebut Podium Utama di Race Kedua

    Nasib naas Carlos Checa di race pertama, memang membuat harapan pembalap asal Spanyol itu langsung hilang. Namun insiden yang dialaminya di race 1, tidak membuat Checa kehilangan ambisi untuk meraih kemenangan. Nah, di race kedua ia mewujudkan impiannya untuk mengawali musim 2012 dengan finish di posisi teratas.

    “Sebenarnya saya sempat merasa pesimis setelah terjatuh di race pertama. Namun setelah meraih kemenangan di race kedua ini, semangat optimisme saya jadi lebih tinggi. Pada awal balapan memang agak sulit, karena harus melalui beberapa pembalap dan menjauh dari rombongan. Saya terus meningkatkan lap tercepat, karena tidak ingin terkejar oleh Max Biaggi yang tampil apik,” ujar Checa usai balapan berlangsung.

    Meski Checa mampu meraih kemenangan fantastis, tapi pembalap yang jadi sorotan utama di race kedua adalah Max Biaggi. Pembalap asal Italia itu melebar hingga ke gravel di lap pertama dan kembali ke lintasan di urutan 22. Namun posisi tersebut tidak membuatnya tertekan. Biaggi malah bisa menyusul satu-persatu lawannya dan meraih podium kedua.

    Perebutan podium terakhir juga cukup seru antara Jonathan Rea dengan Tom Sykes. Rea yang awalnya tampil memimpin lomba dan bertahan di posisi terdepan, tidak kuasa menahan posisinya ketika Tom Sykes menyusul dengan cepat. Meski beberapa kali susul-menyusul di lap terakhir, namun Sykes dan motor Kawasaki masih terlihat lebih apik.

    Sykes pun berhasil mengamankan podium terakhir dari tangan Rea. Padahal Rea sendiri sudah berharap besar bisa meraih podium di race kedua. (otosport.co.id)

    yang jadi masalah adalah Bayliss udah pensiun dari dunia balap selama 3 tahun, paling di cuma ngetes motor doang.. apakah Bayliss bisa memberikan perlawanan kepada yang lain? khususnya Checa dan Biaggi.. sama2 kolot.. :haha:
    dan yang terakhir, apakah ia bakal dikasih ijin sama Kim, istrinya? :hehe:
