CASIO – AN ICON FROM JAPAN

The Japanese company, Casio, which is known throughout the world for its enduring and reliable large watches, was founded in 1946, in Tokyo, by an engineer, Tadao Kashio. About thirty years later, Casio became an important part of the global revolution in watchmaking industry, as a manufacturer of a number of iconic timepieces.

    Casio G-Shock Grafity Devier Series

    What's The difference between GW-3000 vs G-1200 ?

Both models G-1200 & GW-3000 are same. The ONLY differences is the atomic version is serve for market that can receive radio time calibrations (6 towers accross the globe, 2 in Japan, (which includes Korea) 1 in USA (North & Central America), 2 in Europe (London, Paris, Rome etc), and 1 in China (includes Hong Kong & Taiwan).

Beside beside atomic time keeping, Casio also implement the Tough Movement with automatically adjust your time offset if your accidentally receive strong impact for the watch. It's built an LED sensor to detect the offset of the dials.

For the G-1200, it is market for rest of the area who unable to receive atomic timekeeping. Of course pricing for G-1200 is slightly cheaper compare with the GW-3000. The other feature also has been downgraded is the Tough Movement Technology but still maintaining the Tough Solar Technology.

The Difference between Casio Protrek PRG-130, PRW-1500, and PAW1500

PRG`s are for the international market and do not have the "Atomic" reception feature, PAW`s are for the US & Canada, PRW`s for Europe & Japan mostly. You will generally fin PRG`s much cheaper online as they are aimed at different markets that are not willing to bear the cost of PRW`s, you should be able to find a PRG-130 for around $220 shipped with a bit of digging.

PAW`s are branded as Pathfinder`s the rest are Protrek`s, aside this one watch does have a major difference the PRG-500 as not only is the "Atomic" feature omitted the movement is different, as the PRW-5000 has the self correcting "Tough MVT" & "Atomic" reception the PRG-500 has neither, pricing reflects...

    Protrek quick shot comparisons

2000:- 40 series - first of the big screen Protrek`s runs on a massive power source of four replaceable batteries, feature set is now somewhat dated, lacking basics such as CDT & world time, however still a firm favorite with many including some military units. Still one of the very best digital displays on the market thanks to the extremely high contrast ratio and large clear primary & secondary digits. Only non solar triple sensor in production.

2005:- 80/1100 series - a true field watch in every sense, designed for Alpinists, mountaineers, trekkers, big and brutal virtually in "G-Shock" territory for durability/survivability. Released in 2005, getting a little old in the tooth with the feature set now feeling somewhat limited, due to the restrictive chrono & CDT one of the most highly rated & proven Protrek`s. One for those that absolutely demand a positive track record over several years of use in the field.

2006:- 90/1200 series - Essentially the same module and functionality as the 80/1100 with very different styling, now out of production although the watches can still be found on the market. Very much a stylistic exercise and one that you will love or hate.

2007:- 110/1300 series - has one of Casio`s more versatile modules in a slimline form factor, offering full ABC functionality, good logging well balanced features for timing events etc. Can now be found for very reasonable prices, although the selection of versions is reducing. Lacks the more brutal styling of the traditional Protrek`s.

2008:- 130/1500 series - is best suited for life by the sea with it`s moon & tide data, 200m water resistance and limited logging. Far too compromised to be considered a good all rounder, that being said in it`s element the 130/1500 makes sense and works well. Had one of the biggest selection of versions with seven different styles to choose from, with the negative "Y" version being the most sought after and reclusive model.

2009:- 200/2000 series - is very similar to the 110/1300 reintroducing the duplex display, (dropped on the 110/1300 & 130/1500) in the slimline form factor, adding the sunrise feature, the watch is more focused for casual wear than the 110/1300 with its smaller steel pushers and flush crystal. The 2000 has a new sensor which is both smaller and far more thermally stable than the majority of its predecessors. One of the best feature sets, well balanced and extremely usable much like the 80, only in a far less agricultural manner, generally more sophisticated albeit potentially for less serious use.

2010:- 500/5000 series - analogue digital ABC display breaks away from the norm. Casio`s most expensive ABC`s outside of the "premier" PRX line, the 5000 raises the stakes in fit & finish and the addition of the hybrid "Tough MVT" ABC movement all add to cost. The watch fly`s under the radar as an ABC, with most taking it for a typical sports watch. More in competition with Suunto`s "Elementum" than the more expensive PRX`s. All this and it still retains full ABC functionality with no loss of accuracy, not one for serious field work, a very different take on an ABC. PRG-500 is the non "Atomic" version of the PRW-5000, however be warned the PRG-500 also omits the "Tough MVT" hence the considerable difference in pricing between the PRG-500 & PRW/PAW-5000

2010:- PRG-240 series - looks to be a synthesis of the PRG-40`s style and the PRG-200`s technology and much more advanced functionality, making it realistically a replacement for the venerable PRG-80 and that`s a pretty tall order on any day. The 240 is without any doubt Casio`s new definitive field watch, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Casio`s implementation of the barometer & altimeter is unique and I guess now part of the Protrek experience. The 240 is a excellent choice for a field watch, time will tell regarding the watches durability, however I would be surprised if this proves to be a concern...

PRG/PAG generally three model figure numbers, PRW, PAW generally four figure model numbers, with "Atomic" reception...

PAG is for US/Canada, PRG is Europe/Asia.

PRW is for "Atomic" feature ABC`s Europe & Japan, PRG is non "Atomic" worldwide bar US Canada &, which uses PAG. US & Canada "Atomic" featured ABC`a are PAW

    CASIO AE-1000W REVIEWS

It is one hell of a watch considering the price - the AE-1000W-1AV (this version is not on the Casio USA homepage however).

So here comes a little unboxing and a review:

It's bigger than I thought from the pictures - the digits are 6mm high - bigger than most Gs - similar to the G-3010. The display is crisp and clear. The mini-dial takes a little getting used to but is also easy enough to read. The mini-map is a very cool feature and adds to the vintage look.

I prefer the all-black version over the others - it makes the watch look nice and stealthy and in fact it doesn't look cheap I think. The slightly domed acrylic crystal adds to the look

The overall quality is good enough - especially considering the price:
    - resin case
    - steel back (marked 'Made in China')
    - soft resin strap
    - black plastic buckle
    - wears very comfy on my wrist
    - the buttons are nice and easy to press and so far I haven't managed to press the 'search/start/stop'-button by accident

Let's come to the features which combine some elements not found in many other Casios:

    - pressing 'search' in the time-keeping screen switches between home-time and 3 additional time-zones that can be set freely and of course be adjusted to DST on/off - you can swap those time zones with the home-time by pressing adjust+light

    Tokyo time - time 4

    - world-time: 48 cities and 31 time-zones which you can also swap with your home-time by pressing adj+light at the same time

UTC doesn't get marked on the mini-map - only the 'normal' time-zones

    - 5 Alarms setable as one-time or daily alarms

there is a little twist here - when you press adjust and the digits start blinking the alarm-type is always set to one-time alarm - at first I thought this was stupid but after a day of use I noticed that I use the one-time alarm far more often than I need a daily alarm - so when the alarm sounds I press any button to stop it and that's it.

No need to go to the alarm menu and turn off the alarm so it doesn't sound the next day when you don't need it - pretty good idea. Of course when you set it for daily alarm the alarm simply stays that way till you switch it off, but once you change the alarm time you'd have to change the alarm type to 'daily' again. There's no snooze alarm but you can't have everything I guess .

The alarms are pretty loud (louder than most G-Shocks) and sound for 10 sec.

    - 24 hr timer setable to the second and also shows 1/10 sec - not really necessary but nice because it gives you an instant optical feedback if you have started the timer correctly - useful when the watch is muted

    - then there's a 24 hr stopwatch - not much to say about it - Casio standard with the possibilty to take split time readings and two finishes

What I like very much about that watch is the analogue LCD mini-dial (it even shows the seconds) that basically makes it an ana-digi without the normal disadvantages of an ana-digi: no hands obscuring the display and no moving parts - which means greater shock resistance and more room inside the case for a big battery - after all it's marketed as a 10-year-battery model (CR2025).

Something which adds much to the vintage appeal of the watch is the LED backlight that lights the whole display in a nice amber color and works even better than I thought (have to take a picture of that) - much better than the vintage mini-lightbulbs in fact.

The upper left display indicates the 'mute', 'alm' and 'sig' markers btw - in case somebody was wondering why it's empty .

After one day the watch runs still in sync with my GW-2500B wich makes me think it will run much better than the specs say (+/-30sec/month).

when you're used to wearing G-Shocks it's pretty slim

pic with the lights on (looks much better in reality but I never figured out how to do good night shots so far

You get an idea at least - when pushing the light button at night it's perfectly legible across the whole dial - even the little analogue LCD mini-dial. The color looks different too - more of an amber color without that strange green tint I got in the pic.

    conclusion:
    - a very nice vintage looking watch with crisp display and a great feature set at an unbeatable price

The only downside for some might be the acrylic crystal 'cause it's not really protected by the bezel and scratches easily - however you can buff out those scratches easily too with some cell-phone display polish. And it might be possible for people who wear the watch in front of the wristbone to accidentally switch time-zones by pressing 'search' - hasn't happened to me however so far.

For the price I think this is a strong buy for everybody with a love for that extra nerdy 80s vintage look and for those that want excellent features for little money

    3. G-Shock, a must have in any watch collection

    7. A Birthday’s gift from beloved girlfriend

    Post-Purchase Evaluation

G-Shock is well-known as a indestructible watch and looking at the aggressive looking 51.2mm watch, it’s hard to disagree. It is a bigger sized G-Shock compare to the other model which is very bold and trendy looking.

G-Shock cleverly plays with the combination of colors on most of their G-Shock that created a fashion trend on majority younger people. If you are looking for a G-Shock that is neither colorful nor young looking, GD100-1BER is the answer. The stealth look is a big plus point for this specific G-Shock. The negative screen on the all black color scheme has given the watch a very manly look.

Not forgetting the cool-looking Blue illumination LEDs that is used instead of the ordinary electro-luminescence found on most G-Shock. And, it has a improved battery lifespan of 7 years which does not give the hassle of replacing the battery for every 2-3 years found on most G-Shock.

G Shock GD100-1BER, a big, bold, high technology equipped and muscular stealth looking watch that will look good on any wrist of any age.

Overall, it's a great G-Shock with a lot to offer. The finish on the resin parts is very unique. Most of the time it doesn't stand out too much, but it can have a nice metallic glow in bright light. Casio obviously went with a military theme for this watch, and it's interesting that only the Riseman in this series has this particular look. The other Military Inspired G-Shocks are much plainer in appearance.

    GX-56-1ADR King G-Shock Review

The GX-56-1ADR is one of six "King G-Shock" models that Casio released in 2010. These are the biggest G-Shocks ever produced. The over-sized design is the best feature, but it's so gigantic that it might be too much for some people. It has the classic 5600 G-Shock form factor in a package that seems three times the size.

    [IMG][IMG]

Left side of the watch: mud resistant buttons
    [IMG]

Right side: covered buttons for extra protection
    [IMG]

Lower band with "Shock Resist" text
    [IMG][IMG]

Heavy duty metal clasp with screws on each side
    [IMG][IMG]

Overall, it's a great G-Shock. The atomic versions of these run nearly $300 USD in Japan. So by comparison, these are a great deal with the $150 USD retail price in the US. You do have to go without the Multiband 6 atomic sync, but it's great to have the option to choose. The only complaint might be that it's too big of a G-Shock for some. This watch practically leaps off the wrist when you're wearing it. It's not going to be easy wearing this one with long sleeves. It might be a perfect choice though for guys with really big wrists that aren't happier with the regular sized G-Shocks.

These watches come in a wide array of styles and colours, so there is sure to be one to please anyone who purchases them. Casio knows the trends and they know what people want. They are always developing new lines under the Baby G label. One can now find diamond embezzled bezels, shock resistant, and water resistant Baby G shock watches. But, Casio's designs did not stop with these three exciting features. Baby G shock watches incorporate many more cool features that are taking wrist fashion by storm.

Whether you are looking for a metal finished band or a leather band, Casio offers it with their Baby G shock watches line. Highly polished mirror finishes and tough leather are two of the highly detailed design features that you can find with these watches. When it comes to the face of these watches, you can choose between digital or regular clock display and some of the watches even offer LCD backlighting and display. The Baby G shock watches are perfect for women everywhere and it does not matter how old they are. From skydiving, surfing, parties, and more, these watches are highly versatile. They will "fit in" with whatever environment you put them in. Go deep sea diving or snowboarding and have no worries about the Baby G shock watch that you have on your wrist. Now, Casio has come out with a new cool feature that even makes these watches ice resistant. Hopefully, no one ever needs that feature, but in any case it's nice to know you have it whenever you may need it. Casio has put the Baby G shock watches through a variety of different tests in order to make sure that these watches can stand up to just about any possible situation. They have taken hammers to them, hydraulic piston presses, and much more.

The Baby G shock watches were developed off of the idea of using a hollow structure. Basically, the module just floats around inside of the structure. This makes the watches extremely tough and hard to damage or destroy. The design also entails technology that is exclusive to the G shock brand. This one-of-a-kind technology helps to protect the fragile pieces in the module, and helps to make the watch extremely resistant to just about any situation. They also incorporate a prominent bezel configuration that keeps the glass from coming into contact with any surface just in case the watch is dropped. The angel at which the watch falls doesn't matter either. It is protected no matter which way it hits the ground. Metal bands are constructed on scratch resistant pieces, and because of the flexible movement that is offered, the band of the watches are even shock resistant.

The line of Baby G shock watches have been developed for the consumers who like to work hard and to play hard. They are made to last no matter what situation they are put in. Casio truly has thought of everything when it comes to their line of Baby G shock watches. This is probably one of the reasons why this line has truly become centre stage. You can find many celebrities that are "jumping on the bandwagon" with this trend setting fashion wrist wear. Celebrities from Kristin DeBarge, music group Nina Sky, and Erica Hosseini are just a few of the A-List members who are now sporting these cute and functional watches.

Casio got it right when they developed this line. The Baby G shock watches are really an amazing asset that everyone should add to their fashion wrist wear collection. You are sure to turn heads not necessarily because of the extreme sporting activity that you may be doing, but because of the fabulous, fashionable, functional, and supportive watch that you have on your wrist. You should definitely keep your eye on the Baby G shock watch line. You never know what might be developed next.

Casio Releases G-SHOCK with High Brightness LED Backlighting

Bright White Light Expresses Tough G-SHOCK Image in an All New Way
Newly Developed Circuit Drives High Brightness LED Using the Limited Power of a Watch

TOKYO, August 23, 2010 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of new additions to its family of G-SHOCK shock-resistant watches. The new GD-100 lineup features a high brightness LED as the backlight for the digital display.

Casio developed the G-SHOCK brand of watches in 1983 to realize the new concept of a tough watch that would not break even if dropped. Since that time, the brand has continued to evolve, with advanced functions, construction and design all based on shock resistance. Casio has led the way in introducing electro luminescence (EL) and light emitting diode (LED) technologies for the luminous elements in watches, improving the visibility of the display in dark locations.

The new GD-100 lineup uses a high brightness white LED as a backlight for the digital display, a feature which expresses the toughness that G-SHOCK represents, in the form of bright light.

In addition to EL lighting elements, LED lighting elements are commonly used as backlights for digital watches, but it has been difficult, on the low power available to a watch, to achieve high brightness with LEDs. They also face limitations when it comes to the color of the luminescence.

Casio’s newly developed luminescence circuit drives a high brightness white LED without using any more power than previous backlights. It provides approximately 6 times* the brightness of a conventional LED, and achieves outstanding visibility, even in a bright location. Moreover, the watches are highly practical, with a long battery life of approximately seven years.

The GD-100 lineup boasts a comprehensive range of functions including a world time function showing the time in 48 cities around the world, five alarms, a stopwatch, and a countdown timer. There is also a flash alert function that blinks the backlight with the sound of the alarm or the time-up sound of the timer, and an auto-light function which automatically illuminates the display when the user tilts the watch toward the eyes to check the time.

The body of the watch has a round shape with large, easy-to-use buttons. The face design features five round LCD windows of different sizes all arranged in a row, which give the face a three-dimensional appearance when the high brightness LED lights up. The lineup includes a model with a sharp looking white LCD readout on a dark background, or inverted LCD.
