Fiorentina Coach Prandelli Honoured To Receive Facchetti Award
The Viola tactician talked about the International Giacinto Facchetti Prize he will receive tomorrow.

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli will be presented with the 'International Giacinto Facchetti Prize', awarded to people in football who have shown exceptionally positive and gentlemanly behaviour.

Prandelli spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his memories of the former Inter legend, who sadly passed away three years ago, and to whom the award is named after.

"I remember Giacinto as a great champion and an affectionate father," he said. "When I coached the Atalanta youths he often came to see his son Gianfelice. It was Facchetti, one of Italian football's legends, but he was there in a corner, suffering like a normal father.

"I would meet him in Florence and have dinner with him. The menu was fixed: a steak and football."

On what this award means to him, the coach said: "Giacinto loved football, receiving an award dedicated to him is a dream come true."

On his future, Prandelli said: "I hope to remain in the football world as long as possible, but not as a coach. I've been a player, a youth team coach, and coach of an important team. All that's left is to be a president.

"I'm joking, but I'd like to have a manager-type role, like [Sir Alex] Ferguson. I would like to co-ordinate the running of a club.

"Fiorentina? We are one of the best-liked teams in Italy. We don't have a huge fanbase, but many people side with us. That makes me proud."

The Viola coach has said that he is not sure if he deserves the award, but he feels very honoured to have been presented with it...

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has expressed his feelings after winning the Giacinto Facchetti 'Il Bello Del Calcio' award from La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The award is given to those who respect the value of the game. It has been won previously by Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

Prandelli has now joined the club and he is delighted.

"I am very emotional with this award," Prandelli told the press.

"I had the fortune of meeting Facchetti and this is an honour for me being here today. I am embarrassed to be honest as I feel as if I don't deserve this award.

"However, I am honoured to receive this prize."

Giovanni Trapattoni Names Fiorentina Boss Cesare Prandelli As His Heir


The ex-Juventus, Inter and Benfica boss has earmarked the Viola leader to become a coaching legend. In addition, he has also mused over Marcello Lippi's non-selection of Antonio Cassano...

Current Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni believes that Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli is in line to enjoy a hugely successful management career.

The veteran tactician has won many trophies in his career, including all of UEFA's club competitions, and ten league titles in four different countries.

Many believe that kind of success may be impossible to repeat, but 'Trap' think there is one man who can replicate his glory.

"Maybe I should not mention his name, because then he will immediately be named as a 'vice-Trapattoni'," he said, according to Goal.com Italia.

"I respect him too much to not do it: Cesare Prandelli. He reminds me a lot of myself and I hope he continues to progress even further. He deserves it."

Meanwhile, the former Italy national team boss compared Marcello Lippi's exclusion of Antonio Cassano to his 2002 World Cup snub towards Roberto Baggio in Japan and South Korea.

"I brought Baggio to lunch, we talked. I waited until after his injury, but in my opinion he was not physically ready for the World Cup," explained the 70-year-old.

Trapattoni is currently preparing his Ireland side to take on France in the European World Cup play-offs on November 14 and 18.
