Sony NEX 6 Review

Sony NEX 6 merupakan salah satu kamera jenis mirrorless terbaru dari Sony yang diumumkan bulan September tahun lalu. Desain bodi kamera NEX 6 mirip dengan “abangnya” NEX 7. Ada beberapa perubahan yang cukup menarik dan positif yaitu NEX 6 kini dilengkapi dengan kenop mode, sehingga tidak perlu masuk ke dalam menu untuk mengganti mode kamera. Di kenop mode terdapat beberapa mode standar seperti mode otomatis, prioritas apertur, prioritas shutter speed, manual dan beberapa mode praktis lainnya termasuk mode panorama yang populer untuk merekam pemandangan yang lebar. Salah satu highlight dari NEX 6 adalah fitur Wi-Fi. Fitur ini memungkinkan pengguna untuk mengirimkan foto/video tanpa kabel ke perangkat lainnya seperti ponsel atau tablet.

Ukuran dan desain Sony NEX 6 relatif kecil dan ringan dibanding dengan kamera DSLR, tapi jika dibandingkan dengan kamera compact, NEX 6 terlihat jauh lebih besar terutama saat dipasangkan dengan lensa telefoto. NEX 6 memang lebih menyerupai sifat-sifat kamera DSLR karena bisa mengganti lensa dan memiliki sensor ukuran APS-C yang setara dengan sebagian besar kamera DSLR di pasaran.

Desain Sony NEX 6 lebih mirip ke gaya modern minimalis daripada tradisional seperti kamera DSLR. NEX 6 tidak memiliki punuk jendela bidik optik layaknya kamera DSLR. Badan kamera kokoh karena terbuat dari logam magnesium alloy. Ada juga bagian yang menonjol di bagian kanan kamera yang berguna sebagai pegangan. Hal tersebut membuat penggunaan NEX 6 menjadi nyaman.

Berbeda dengan “adiknya” NEX 5 yang tidak memiliki jendela bidik, NEX 6 memiliki jendela bidik elektronik yang beresolusi tinggi yaitu 2.4 juta titik, sama seperti yang dimiliki NEX 7. Jendela bidik elektronik ini cukup mulus, jernih dan tajam di kondisi cahaya yang terang maupun gelap. Teknologi jendela bidik ini adalah yang terbaik saat ini. Meski sebagian orang lebih menyukai mengunakan layar LCD untuk membingkai foto, jendela bidik elektronik ini memberikan alternatif untuk fotografer yang terbiasa mengunakan jendela bidik, terutama yang sebelumnya mengunakan kamera DSLR. Mengunakan jendela bidik dapat membuat kamera lebih stabil. Tapi sisi negatifnya akan menguras baterai lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan mengunakan layar LCD.

Hal yang menarik lainnya dari NEX 6 adalah adanya hot shoe universal. Hot shoe ini memungkinkan kita mengunakan lampu kilat eksternal atau aksesoris lain yang memiliki hot shoe universal yang biasanya diproduksi oleh pihak ketiga. Sebelum ini, pengguna kamera Sony dibatasi hanya bisa mengunakan aksesoris yang memiliki hot shoe ekslusif Sony saja.

NEX 6 juga dilengkapi dengan LCD yang dapat dimiringkan maksimum 90 derajat ke bawah dan 45 derajat ke atas untuk membantu membingkai foto di sudut rendah (low angle). Sayangnya layar ini tidak bisa diputar ke samping dan tidak memiliki fungsi layar sentuh (touchscreen). NEX 6 memiliki lampu flash kecil yang uniknya cukup fleksibel untuk diarahkan ke atas. Fungsinya adalah untuk dipantulkan ke langit-langit sehingga cahaya yang jatuh ke subjek foto atau ruangan menjadi lebih lembut.

Lensa baru 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS tidak seperti lensa tradisional pada umumnya, karena memakai mekanisme power zoom dan focus by wire. Saat kita ingin melakukan zoom, kita tinggal menggeser tuas atau memutar barrel lensa. Motor fokus otomatis akan menggerakkan elemen-elemen lensa. Desain ini memungkinkan ukuran lensa yang tidak terlalu panjang sehingga lebih seimbang dengan ukuran kamera Sony NEX 6. Kelemahan desain ini adalah kecepatan zoom yang sedikit lebih lambat dan memakai tenaga baterai. Selain itu, saat menghidupkan kamera, kita harus menunggu sebentar untuk menunggu lensanya memperpanjang diri. Saat memotret dengan format RAW di 16mm, lensa ini memiliki vinyet dan distorsi yang cukup mengganggu. Dengan format JPG, hal ini tidak masalah karena dikoreksi secara otomatis melalui software di kamera. Meskipun tidak sempurna, lensa ini sangat praktis untuk penyimpanan karena ukurannya yang pendek.

Kualitas foto NEX 6 setara dengan kamera DSLR generasi sekarang karena mengunakan sensor dengan ukuran yang sama. Perbedaan utamanya dengan NEX 7 terletak di resolusi fotonya. NEX 6 memiliki sensor 16 MP, sedangkan NEX 7 memiliki sensor 24 MP. Meskipun hanya 16 MP, foto yang dihasilkan tajam dan menyimpan detail yang cukup lengkap saat memotret dengan ISO rendah (100-400). Di ISO 800 noise mulai muncul dan ketajaman foto mulai berkurang. Tapi foto di ISO 3200 masih layak untuk dinikmati untuk web atau dicetak dengan ukuran kecil.

Saat menguji NEX 6, saya mendapati salah satu scene mode yang bernama twilight mode cukup menarik. Saat mengunakan mode ini, kamera akan otomatis menjepret sebanyak 4 kali berturut-turut dan kemudian menggabungnya sehingga noise yang timbul tidak terlalu banyak. Menurut pengamatan saya, hasilnya cukup bagus meskipun ISO yang digunakan sangat tinggi (6400).

Operasi kamera cukup mudah karena menu-menunya terbagi dengan cukup jelas; kamera, kualitas gambar, warna dan kecerahan, setup, WiFi dan playback. Pengorganisasian menu Sony ini cukup rapi sehingga tidak sulit menemukan setting yang ingin diubah. Meski tidak memiliki fitur layar sentuh, adanya beberapa tombol dan kenop memudahkan akses ke setting yang sering digunakan.

Respon kecepatan kamera ini juga cukup cepat meskipun tidak sekejab. Adanya animasi singkat menimbulkan sedikit jeda. Secara normal, kamera ini bisa memotret tiga foto berturut-turut, dan bisa didorong ke 12 foto per detik dengan mode prioritas kecepatan. Di mode tersebut, eksposur dan fokus terkunci di foto pertama dan tidak bisa diubah di foto-foto selanjutnya. Sistem autofokus hybrid (perpaduan deteksi kontras dan deteksi fasa) terbukti mumpuni karena kecepatan autofokus hampir sama dengan sistem fokus kamera DSLR yang sudah teruji.

Sony NEX 6 merupakan kamera NEX generasi baru yang memiliki fitur yang lengkap untuk pemula maupun fotografer amatir yang serius. Meski ada sedikit kelemahan seperti kecepatan zoom dan kinerja yang tidak secepat kamera DSLR canggih, tapi fitur-fitur yang lengkap, kualitas foto yang baik, dan yang terutama karena ukurannya yang relatif kecil dan ringan, kesemuanya membuat pengalaman fotografi kita menjadi lebih menyenangkan dan praktis.

Hands-On Sony NEX-6 & 16-50mm OSS images & other E-Mount Lens

I got a Sony NEX-6 & 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 loaner from Sony Vietnam for two days and here are some real-life images. In this series I also use the NEX-6 with my existing E-Mount lens to see how it worked, so the images are mixed. All images are JPEG & Hand-held. I hope the EXIF show which lens is which. Here are the lens I used, 16-50mm OSS, 50 1.8, 30 3.5 Macro, CZ 24mm 1.8, Lietz 90mm f/4.0 Manual Focus with Focus Peaking.

Overall, the images are very nice, on par with my NEX-7. The noise is a bit better since it is 16mpx. The camera worked well with all lens. The 16-50mm lens is sweet and cover a better range than my old 18-55mm kit (which I sold). The dynamic range of NEX-6 is pretty nice and detailed. The colors and white balance is spot on. I use it on Auo-White-Balance. I did not test the Hybrid AF, so sorry on that. After two days of shooting, however, I preferred my NEX-7 because I can operate much quicker with the Tri-Navi controls dials. I love the fact that I can see the histogram with the EV compensation in real-time. With the NEX-6 when you do EV compensation, it is two button push-and-rotate and you cannot see the histogram to judge your compensation.

There is one aspect of the NEX-6 that I love, is that I can hand-held and shoot 3 images with +-5EV aparts. This is great for hand-held HDR which I do often. I hope NEX-7 will update firmware to give this same feature. In return, I cannot do my wireless flash like how I do it on my NEX-7.

Feel free to ask me any question. As it is still fresh in my minds. Will I buy this camera to as a second body to my setup. Yes without a doubt. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!! Make sure you buy the 16-50mm kit lens too, as this lens is pretty excellent for a kit, and I have used many kit lens before

I have used all NEX series for the last 4 years since the original NEX-5 and find it slowly getting better with features and lens as well.. I love the system...

JUST TO CLARIFY ... I don't work for Sony and they never gave me anything. I just know a person inside and he always let me test the new equipments. I am waiting to test the new 10-18mm f/4.0 OSS and 35mm f/1.8 OSS

Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS (SEL-55210) - Review / Lens Test

Introduction
The Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS got a companion to cover the mid to long tele range - the Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS. Both lenses are also sold in some double lens kits with a NEX camera. The 55-210mm OSS has a 3.8x zoom ratio which is about typical for such kit zoom lenses. The max. aperture of f/6.3 at 210mm is slower than average though - this is, most likely, a measure to keep the lens as small as possible. In full format terms it "behaves" like a "83-315mm" so it is suitable for applications such as basic portrait-, sports- and wildlife-photography.

Sony E lenses tend to have a pretty nice build quality and the 55-210mm OSS is no exception here. Surprisingly Sony used mag-alloy for the lens body which is definitely a differentiator in this lens and price class. The rubberized focus and zoom control rings operate very smoothly. The inner lens tube (made of plastic) wobbles a little bit though. Typical for such lenses it extends when zooming towards the long end of the zoom range. The front element does not rotate so it remains easily possible to use polarizers. The lens is certainly compact compared to similar DSLR lenses but it looks fairly long when mounted to the dwarfish NEX cameras - especially when extending the lens to its maximum focal length and with the attached lens hood (supplied).

In this Sony 55-210mm E-Mount Lens Review, I will go over it all!! The 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Lens (sel55210) is one of the most fun lenses I’ve used on any of the Nex cameras to date. In this Sony Lens review I had the pleasure of using the Sony Nex-5n for a camera body and it certainly did the job well if you ask me. For starters the 55-210mm pics up right where the 18-55mm kit lens lets off, making this lens the perfect complement for any Nex kit lens owner. In addition to that the actual focal length, when taking into account the sensor crop factor, is 82-315mm. This is an incredible zoom range making this lens extremely versatile and a solid value for the dollar at only $349.99 US. Sony really does do a good job when they actually release lenses Speaking of that, this lens is still on back order as I’m writing this, but should be In Stock very soon according to my BHPhoto guy.
Quality:

The build quality of the Sony 55-210mm lens is very good as I expected based on the 18-55mm kit lens review I did a few months ago. It’s pretty much a duplicate of that lens only much longer and with a nice rubbery zoom and focus ring. The zoom and focus are silky smooth just like the 18-55mm kit lens, but are easier to use do to the larger size and nice rubber hand grips. I’m really glad they decided to add the rubber as it feels a lot nicer on the hands when working with the lens. It also is not so freezing cold when touching with bare hands to zoom in the winter!

The E-mount 55-210mm lens is solid as a rock when mounted to the Nex-5n, and I pretty much hold the camera by the lens when moving it around and stuff as it’s just easier that way for me. One thing that would be nice for a lens this size on such a small camera body would be a tri-pod collar mount. Similar to the A-mount 70-200mm for example. Now, I know this lens really isn’t that heavy, but in relation to the tiny Nex cameras it is. What I’m getting at here is that when mounted on a tri-pod the stress being put on the camera tri-pod mount itself seems like a bit much in my opinion. I also think the 18-200mm lens could use a tripod collar mount for the same reason! Also, by moving the tri-pod mount point more towards the center of gravity of the camera and lens, it would balance better and shake less when zooming.

Mengapa saya memlilih Nex 6

Kalau kita searching di mesin pencari google tentang topik memilih kamera, pasti akan ada ulasan dan perdebatan yang sengit. Ada yang fanatik nikon, canon, sony, olympus dll dengan berjuta2 alasan

Alasan saya seh sangat sederhana, karena saya perlu kamera bagus dengan bobot ringan yang tidak menyusahkan ketika harus saya bawa jalan2.

beberapa bulan lalu saya mengalami kecelakaan dan patah tulang selangka di bahu kanan sehingga saya belum bisa memakai kamera dslr yang berat dan lensanya yang besar2.

Selama beberapa bulan memakai kamera saya (Nex6) tentu saja ada kelebihan dan kekurangan yang saya sadari.

Kelebihan:

1. tentu saja bobt yang ringan
2. Hasilnya cukup bagus dan dari banyak segi ga kalah2 amat dengan hasil jepretan canon 6d/7d
3. Enak dibawa jalan2 dan tidak terlalu diperhatikan orang2 karena bentuknya yang compact, beda dengan orang yang membawa kamera slr besar dengan lensa2 sebesar pipa paralon
4. Hot shoe nya sudah universal, tidak seperti seri2 nex sebelumnya seperti nex7,nex5,dan nex3 sehingga bisa pakai flash merk lain tapi tanpa TTL ya alias manual
5. kinerja di tempat gelap masih jauh lebih bagus daripada canon 60D dan Olympus (sampai EPL5, OEMD dan EP5 lum nyoba)
6. Kinerjanya di foto studio cukup oke koq
7. memiliki optical viewfinder. Masih jarang ada kamera mirrorless yang memilikinya.

kekurangan;

1. Cari filter lensa agak susah karena diameternya kecil (yang 40,5mm dan 49mm) untuk lensa kit dan fix. Kalau lensa lebar 10-18mm dan 18-200 gampang karena diameternya besar
2. Belum ada flash yang bisa TTL kecuali Sony HVL-F60M yang muahal
3. Lensa zoom dengan bukaan besar blum ada , mesti sabar menanti sigma 18-35 1.4
4. kecepatan shooting kontinu kalo dibandingkan dengan slr kelas menengah ke atas sepertinya masih kalah. Maklum lah teknologi baru fast hybrid AF belum sempurna

The 50 1.8 Specs

The Sony 50 1.8 “E” mount lens for the NEX system is a pretty inexpensive lens. When you compare it to something like a Leica 50 Summicron at $2000 the $299 price tag of the Sony looks insanely cheap. This is no 50 Cron, but it is also not $2000 and it is a SUPERB quality lens. After many weeks with it I have grown to really enjoy the lens, and it has actually become my favorite lens on the NEX-7, just due to its speed, rendering and IS. Here are the features of the lens:

Built-In Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization
“The built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system provides around a 4-stop shutter speed advantage, making it significantly easier to achieve crisp, blur-free images and video” – I agree with this statement. The OSS works great in this lens.

Large f/1.8 Circular Aperture
“Get beautiful, softly blurred backgrounds thanks to the circular aperture of the large maximum aperture of this lens” – At f/1.8, you can get some nice out of focus background for portraits though at 1.8 the lens is a TEENY bit soft, which is normal.

Smooth and Quiet High-Speed Focusing
“A linear motor used for focus drive contributes to low-noise focus operation, while a stepping motor built into the lens, technology inherited from Sony’s professional camcorders, results in smooth, quiet aperture actuation ideal for recording movies” - The AF is QUIET and SMOOTH but will hunt in lower light. This is due to the contrast detect AF of the cameras, not the lens.

Aluminum Alloy Body
“An elegant aluminum alloy exterior blends beautifully with the graceful design of an E-mount” – Same build and look as the 18-55 Kit Zoom in Silver.

Direct Manual Focus
“Use Direct Manual Focus (DMF) to go directly to manual focusing after autofocus lock-on without having to switch modes to facilitate focus adjustments on the fly – it’s perfect for portraits where depth of field may be extremely shallow” – This is a plus and works well, allowing you to override the AF for perfecting the focus.

My Reviews and a word about the size of the Sony lenses

As mostly all of you probably know by now, my reviews are usually pretty different that other websites. Three years ago I decided I was tired of looking at charts and graphs and wanted to know how cameras and lenses performed in actual use. Real world photos! Not studio shots, not charts, not graphs…but using the product as it was BUILT and MEANT to be used! So many of us are hobbyists and enthusiasts and we do not shoot newspapers or care about the MTF charts, I know I never did. Some of you may, but for me, and for this site, I like to show how a lens does when taking pictures. These pictures can be snap shots, professional shots or whatever. I know many of you out there are looking for cameras and lenses to take images of your family, your children and your everyday life. This is what I show you in my reviews. Simple, easy and fun!

When I started shooting the 50 1.8 I looked at it and thought it looked almost exactly like the 18-55 Kit Zoom lens. Same color, ,same size, shape, etc. This is not a bad thing, but many of you were hoping Sony would create lenses that are smaller. The reason the lenses are not as tiny as a Leica 50 Summicron for example in simple terms is that A: The lens has AF built in. B: The lens has image stabilization, and C: The thickness of the camera body is too thin for the lenses to be tiny.

So with the NEX line we get tiny bodies and larger lenses but even still, the package as a whole is much smaller than even an entry level DSLR and even bigger SLR lens. I’d take a NEX-7 over something like a Nikon D7000 and lens ANY DAY. It’s sleek, it’s sexy, it’s usability factor is through the roof and the quality is REALLY REALLY good. At times it is amazing actually.

(SR5) NEX-5T is a NEX-5R with some minor things more. High quality 16-70mm zoom coming.

Within the next days Sony will announce the NEX-5T. But don’t get too excited about it. This is basically just a NEX-5R with some minor new features. It has NFC, FN-button control like on SLT cameras, new Menu Interface and a couple of more things.

The real major news will be the new 16-70mm High Quality zoom.

Sony sends out invitations for a “Big” event! Full Frame NEX-9 coming.

A dozen (yes a dozen!) of European stores just sent me messages to tell me that they got an important invitation from Sony. These are big and very small store owners. They told me that Sony invited them for a very important meeting where Sony will show them something “BIG” in the digital camera market (that’s the word used by Sony). Every store got different meeting days. But these are all days in the week between the 14 and 18 of October.

I am going to share one of the mail I received from a small store owner (Thanks to the anonymous sender). This is what he wrote:

“I work at a small camera retail store in a small country in Europe. Yesterday we got mail from Sony. There will be a meeting on October 18.
And the fact, that we get an invitation, means it must be something big. Every other announcement Sony makes, we get via mail. On the next day…
It didn’t say, what will be announced. But… Last time our Sony representative told us, that there will come a “Full Frame NEX 7″ soon.“

Sony will launch a new service program for “PRO” photographers and camera owners.

There are many new High End A and E-mount cameras that will be announced from now on. And trusted sources confirmed that Sony will also launch a new “PRO Service” for photographers and Sony camera owners. The details of the program are not known yet but it could include a hotline phone number, a fast repair service, and so on. One of my sources told me that one of the goal is to make it easy for Canon and Nikon Pro’s to switch over to Sony.

First Sony 18-105mm G lens impression

A Korean SLRclub member had the chance to use the new sony 18-105G F/4 in advance. The lens will be available in December only and this is really the first test report. SAR reader Park was so friendly to translate the text for us. Thanks!

“The first impression of 18-105 F4 G to me was… “It’s enormous.” It was mounted on NEX-7. The ratio was good. It was shinny and felt like a solid high quality lens and the lens felt slightly heavier than 55-210.
It was tested Izakaya, which was an low-light indoor environment. You wouldn’t use 105mm focal length in an in-door environment … but despite that the lens comes with F/4 aperture and OSS,
I had a little bit of difficulty taking ‘unblurred photos’. AF-wise, it focused rather fast that I had expected unless I didn’t focus on dim objects. However, I felt 16-70 was faster in AF speed. But with its price much cheaper than 16-70 and it being a G Lens,
I felt that this lens was much better than lenses that were already out there, such as 18-200.”

This lens isn’t really made for photographers. But it will be an interesting buy for filmmakers.

And the NEX-FF names are….A7 and A7r!

Sony decided to name all high end cameras as “Alpha“. No matter if these will be real A-mount cameras, E-mount DSLR shaped cameras or more compact E-mount cameras like the RX1 and NEX series. All High End models will be Alpha. That’s why the first two E-mount Full Frame cameras will be named “A7” and “A7r“. Both have exactly the same design (with NEX-7 grip, EVF in the middle and RX1 size). The difference is in the sensor. The A7 has 24MP sensor, more fps and different AF speed. The A7r has a 36MP sensor and less fps (and I have been told a bit “different” AF).

updated and corrected: The A7 and A7r are weathersealed.

Short update on the new A7 and A7r cameras:

1) Both cameras will not have on sensor stabilization

2) Both cameras are weathersealed! UPDATED: Sorry. I first wrote their are NOT weathersealed but it was a copy and past error from me. They are weathersealed!!!

New Tamron 150-500mm lens to be announced tomorrow.

And here it is your perfect Spy Tool! Tomorrow Tamron will announce that 150-500mm f/5-6.3 VC beast that will replace the current 200-500mm lens (here at Amazon). The new lens will have a superior optical quality. Price is still not known but the current 200-500mm lens sells for almost $1,000.

Sony, Canon and Nikon do cut profit outlook.

Canon (Info on Yahoo), Nikon (Info on Engadget) and Sony (Info on CNN) did cut their profit outlook. The full Sony PDF report can be donwnloaded here: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/13q2_sony.pdf. While Canon and Nikon stated that the system camera market (DSLR+mirrorless) will stagnate or shrink in 2014 Sony’s main issue is the dramatically disappearing compact camera business. That’s why they came up with the Sony QX system but if that will work out for Sony has yet to be seen. The outlook is still negative:

Overall segment sales are expected to be below the August forecast primarily due to a downward revision in the annual unit sales forecast of video cameras and digital cameras. Operating income is expected to be significantly below the August forecast, primarily due to the negative impact of the above-mentioned decrease in sales. Year-on-year, sales are expected to be essentially flat and operating income is expected to increase significantly.

There is no mention in Sony’s report about the DSLR and Mirrorless sales outlook. Would have been interesting to see what Sony expects from the A7-A7r sales.

Next ILCE-5000 registration (not sure if it’s the NEX-5r).

Sony registered the “ILCE-5000″ at Taiwan NCC (National Communications Commission). This approval is necessary for products with wireless capability. As you know in some countries the NEX-5t has that A5000 mark (see picture below). So I am not sure if that registered name is for a new camera or for the current NEX-5t. The weird thing is that the NEX-5T product has been already registered months ago. So why register it again?

Yang ini dah ada view findernya ya? ANe punya nex 5, tp view findernya dijual terpisah, awalnya sih sempat bingung kok kamera mahal gini gak ada viewfinder, tapi ternyata dengan kamera mirrorless, viewfinder gak ada gunanya karena lcdnya mampu menampilkan hasil settingan secara realtime.
