• yang mengusung ide pengujian DNA di bagian sebelum nya adalah sagasano, tentu saja sagasano pula yang pertama sekali mengungkapkan perasaan bingung n kecewa nya ketika metode usulannya ga berhasil.

Just happen to see one of documentation videos that I recorded several months ago. From total 17,5 minutes duration, a moment with 40 seconds length really show a totally difference nuance. I think it's true, it's heart who touch the others heart. Just one person can be a big existence for the other. Just one person gone we may feel a big part of our world scrambled. The video, no matter how many times I see it, it still touchy. No wonder why documenting became one of my biggest hobbies, because we never know when things become interesting that makes we wanna say, "if only I record it from the beginning. Hmmm, I think I got inspiration to create a story [•_•]

LIGHT​

Spoiler: Light - Part 1

Febuary 4th; 2 PM
As always, another failure. It has been a week since I join this research for my final project yet I didn’t see any progress at all. This research itself has been started from two years ago with no trace of progess to show, nor documentation to read in our library. I still don’t understand why Professor Ryrien so persistent to help that nocturnal bastard with his research.

Giande, that’s the bastard’s name. All I know about him is he was my senior college student that got terible academic score on every single subject he took, except microbiology. That’s for granted I think, he sleep on any class he attend, and even worst, he not even attend most of the classes. It’s still mystery for us how could he got the perfect score on microbilogy. I mean, he didn’t even attend a single day of the final examination period. Well, nepotism always an option on this big university.

Whatever. Professor tell me that I’m permitted to present whatever the result of this research in the next 6 month. With the legendary Professor as my supervisor, it’s not a bad deal at all, haha.

March 4th, 2014; 2 PM
Again, another failure. Nothing changes, nothing happens. This is seriously a boring research, if don’t want to call it “complete useless”. I already ask Professor Ryrien what exacly this research about yesterday, but again, I’m not satisfied at all with his answer.

“This is research about a new kind of medium for microbial culture growth. As we always know in classic way, microbial culture will consume all substrats existed in their medium until the last molecule. They use the substrat for their basic need, food, growth, and multiplying. But, what would happen when the substrats then cease to exist?”

“Of course they will start to die and the growth declined”

“Correct!”

“So what’s this new-kind-medium do? What’s the different?”

“This medium is not a dead matter, it’s alive. That’s the different”

“If both parties are alive, why did I never see any changes? All I see is nothing but transparant blue liquid. From day to day I feel stupid to records constant data. No sign of CO2 nor O2 consumption, no color change, no pH change, no electrical change, no viscosity change. What exactly do I need to observe?”

“Hahaha, You sure are smart and diligent to consider all of those factors. None of his previous partner do like you did nor ask any question about the research it self. That’s why I’ll tell you one more thing about this researh. Nothing changes on time of your observation schedule time means we already walk in the correct path”

“H..how can?”

“Hahaha, I already gave You the biggest clue. It’s up to you now whether you wanna seek for answer of your curiosity or not. But even if it’s a no, please continue your help to observe the subject for the next five months. Then after that, you can expect me to give you my full support for your final presentation, deal?”

“...deal...”

“oke then, don’t forget to report me everything if you found any anomaly”

Strange, this is way too strange. I know Professor Ryrien is a man of his promise, but I don’t like to do something blindly without clear objective. But it’s over a month already....sh*t!

April 4th, 2014; 2 PM
Somehow I could never get used to this useless routine. I’m already at the peak of my boredom. This static data record drove me crazy. I’m pretty sure that right here right now I can create several constant numbers to included on special formula that used to predict this researh progress for next hundred years, then present it in the world scale scientific seminar as “Zero Progress Formula”. I’m serious!

This can’t be continued. My precious brain will corrode in the most tragic way if I stay like this for another hour. I’ve made my mind. I’ll go home early to take a deep slumber, got full strength power to hang the nocturnal bastard on the roof, and make him my personal sandbag for eternity if he cannot answer my curiosity. Just wait until I kick him out from his hibernation hole tonight.

April 4th, 2014; 11 PM
Someone already at work the moment I arrive at laboratory. Even if I never see him in person, I’m pretty sure that that’s him. Nobody else will be here at this hour and doing some unknown research in this campus, no one.

“So..this is the legendary Giande huh?”

“yes?”

Wow, this is surprise me. I never though this nerd will stop his current activity to respon my “hello saying” and facing me. Wait, he is kinda...cool looking from the front. Haha, what a pity.

“So...who are you anyway? What are you doing here?”

Huh? What a rude guy, he has no manner at all.

“I’m Merpati, don’t you know me? Your research partner to be exact”

“Research partner? Hmmm, do I have one?”

“A...Are you kidding me? I’ve help you with your unknown research for over 2 months already and your way of talk seems like you want to say that you never get any help”

“Ah..wait, I seems remember something about research partner...hmm...so that’s it. Professor did tell me before about it”

“So you get it now, huh?”

“Yeah, and I remember that I said to professor that I don’t need one. In short, I don’t need You. Now you know the case, so please get out. You disturb my concentration”

“huh??”

Damn, this guy sure know how to get on my nerve. I really want to hit him hard with a spiked bat right now and then punch his bloody body even more. But be patient Merpati, you come here to find the truth of your research as top priority and don’t execute any murderous act before you get the informations you need. First you need to take a deep breath then release it slowly, repeat the procedure three times then you will calm again.

“hhhh.....alright. Because I’m a really forgiven and nice lady, I’ll forgive your sinful way of talk for now. Oke, I’ll go home for tonight but I’ll be back tomorrow. Prepare your self!”

“Hah, what a strange woman. Do as you wish, I don’t care anyway. Yet, it’s still better if you never come back ever again”

Kuh, curse this guy. Just you wait!

April 11th, 2012; 11 PM
“Who said everyone got the same potential? Who said everyone will be good at something as long as they put serious though and effort into it? Yeah, may be you would gain the ability to some degree. But let me tell you something, half ass skill will bring you to no where in this world”

“Wh...what? How can someone with terible academic score like you saying such superior speech?”

“Me? Ah, yeah, I guess you’re right. Forget it”

“See? It’s a good thing that you remember your place at least”

“Haha, keep your ideal sweety talk and I’ll see how you walk on that dreamy path”

It’s been a week already but still no sign that our cold war come to an end. Night after night we spent to debate every single little thing. It’s all his fault. He reject any suggestion I gave him. Just like tonight, I asked him why don’t he try to put more effort on other subjects because it’s no good afterall if he just advance in microbiology, he won’t be able to graduate with only that single subject. Yet he got ignited for no reason after all my honest and kind said. Damn him.

May 4th, 2014; 11 PM
I don’t know when exactly it started to happen, but latelly the ice between us has became thin and thinner with every single passing night.

“hey, say. Do you want to know what I’ve been researched so far?”

“Huh? Ah, of course I want. But somehow...it’s not that important anymore”

“Haha, really? Why?”

“I...I don’t know since when but, I feel satisfied just being able to talk about a lot of thing every night with you, so...”

Damn, what I’m just saying. I blurted my mind out of the blue. I’m so careless. Now both of us in a deep silent that we can even heard our own heart beat.

“Alright, let’s turn off the lamp” said Giande suddenly.

“Oke...No! Wait, what do you want?!”

“You come here to know what did I’ve been doing and what exactly are you doing so far in mind at first right? So let’s turn off the lamp now”

“No!”

I run toward lamp switch to prevent his further action by blocking his way.

“Hey, what are you doing? I have to turn off the lamp to show it to you”

“No! I know you planned something weird”

“Wh...what do you mean? I can’t show it to you if the lamp is not off”

“That’s just your alibi. What can you possibly show with the lamp off”

“You stubborn girl”

He force his way to turn off the lamp and somehow I can’t stop him. He unexpectedly strong, damn him. I feel so powerless that I can’t do nothing except closing my eyes.

“Now, what do you think?”

“What?”

“Stupid girl, open your eyes!”

How dare he call me stupid right after called me stubborn, yet I still follow his instruction. I slowly open my eyes until I can clearly see what’s the thing in front of me. I swear to God that it’s really amaze me to no end. So this is the truth of that blue liquid that drove me mad day after day. It radiating a bright blue light that’s so beautiful as it suck all my words from my brain library that left me spechless. I can see all its particle inside twinkling while collide with each other, and constanly moving in a slow and dynamic flow.

“Wh...what is this?”

“It’s a mass of microorganism that you always observed up until now”

“Microorganism? This? Is this different thing that I used as research object everyday? I mean, why it’s so active, so bright, so beautiful...”

“No, I assure you it’s exacly the same tube with the same content”

“Impossible!”

“Yes, it is”

“If it’s so, why did I see nothing up until now?”

“That’s because the time of your observation. You’ll see nothing from the tube in the present of intense light”

“What? If...if that’s the case, why Professor assign me to observe it while he know it’ll gave me nothing as result?”

“Hmm, may be he want to ensure that the behaviour of the microbial inside stay constant even in the daylight. It’ll be a serious problem if they not follow their life pattern as I wanted it to be. They’ll die much quicker and thoroughly disturb the whole life cycle inside”

I see. So that’s it. Professor Ryrien really tell me the truth. Giande’s explanation about the thing suddenly make me feel so worthy. I’m a part of this grand research. I’m no less important. All I did really served its purposed, none wasted.

“Thank you...”

“Huh? For what?”

“Nothing. Please let me enjoy this light for a little while”

“Haha, what a strange woman. Up to you”

We sit in silent for around one hour before he started to ask another strange question.

“Hey, what would you do if you know how much your remaining life left?”

“Huh? That’s scary question!”

“Hahaha. I know”

“Don’t ask that kind of question ever again”

“Hahaha, alright...alright..You’re so boring woman”

As usual, he has a sharp tongue and strange personality. But I starting to realize that’s just the way he say things, there’s no ill feeling about it. Deep inside I feel so happy to arrive at this moment. If just by knowing that being a part of this research enough to make me feel so worthy, what did he feels as the main actor of this whole thing? Ah, I’m just not in the mood to think anymore. I just want to see my beautiful research object silently for a little while more before ending this night and go home.

May 5th, 2014; 3 PM
“Professor, please tell me more about him...my research partner...Giande”

Professor Ryrien looks surprised with my sudden request. He even got stoned for a while before ask me why did I wanted to know about it. But in the end he accepted my request after I said that I came every night to laboratory and somehow I became more and more curious about my partner. Professor asked me to follow him into his personal office room so nobody else would hear out talk.

“I adopted him since baby from an orphanage. He was a really cheerful and brilliant child. He love to learn anything around him since his young age, that’s make him pretty good on almost everything. But what’s the most awesome about him is he never show any sign of arrogance. Despite his superior skills he always patiently share his knowledge to those around him. He knows really well how to teach them in the most appropiate way. None of his friends ever do bad things to him. They always love him for the way he act, the way he talk. He also possess a really nice smile. It’s a pitty that none of those pretty maiden that fall for him ever able to marry him”

“Haha, why?"

“...because he got some incurable desease that may be already on last stadium right now. His neural system works in a really different way that permit him to feel anything much more intense than any normal person. That’s explain why his ability to learn so far surpassed all any other child I ever know. But his outstanding ability also shadowed by even more scary drawback. The constant intense work of his neural cell also greatly reduce their life time, and once they died, there’s no more replacement. You understand what it means right?”

Somehow I can sense a freezing cold feeling crawling on my spine. It choked my throat that I can’t speak even a single word to respon. Professor continue the story.

“We know that we supposed to hide this from him forever, but he is too smart to understand it by him self even if no one telling him. Still, I deeply regret that I underestimated his life spirit. I can still remember the moment five years ago when he suddenly come to me with resolution and said that he will use all of his remaining life to the fullest. He told me that he wanted to create something that’ll make people to always remember him even far after his dead and thousand of years after. Thing that always being able to be seen even in the darkest of night. Invention that even a Thomas Alpha Edison will never dream of”

“...the biogenic lamp”

Professor show his rare smile hearing my last respon before continue his answer.

“Yes. Do you know that you’re the only student who know about this?”

“What? No...no...”

Suddenly I feel so proud and happy to hear Professor last statement. I’m the only student who knows about his invention. I’m the first one. No, wait, what about him? How much time left does he has right now?

“Proffessor, I...”

“I know what you want to ask me about, but let’s end this story now”

“But...Professor..”

“Even I don’t know when exactly his rapid deterioration begin. So please...continue to be his friend till the end. Would you do it?”

Professor forced him self to smile in front of me even if I know he wanted to cry. Damn him, I want to cry my self you know?

May 7th, 2014; 11 PM
“Merpati? What’s wrong? Did you got sick? You don’t have to come if you’re still not feeling well..”

This is wrong. That should be my lines you stupid nerd. Look at the mirror and you can see it for clear how big that black ring under your eyes. Well, I think I got one too...because I just crying since two days ago. This guy think that I got sick and bomb me with those questions the moment I appear? He is so clueless.

“What ever, it’s a good thing that you didn’t came for the last 2 days, so I can concentrated more to create new formula for medium mixture composition”

“Wh...what? you said it’s better if I don’t come?”

“No, that’s not it. It’s because for that reason I can surprise you even more”

“...with what?”

“With this”

The moment he turn off the lamp the room filled with multiple colors of light that changes from one to another color periodically. The light so soft, so warm, so calming. My tears start to dropping without I realize it. Not just because I’m amazed by the light charm, but moreover because I remember the things Professor Ryrien said, “this is his form of resolution”. Why did a bright person like him must endure such a painful life.

“I know it, it’s because the old man tell you strange story about me right? You didn’t came here for the past two days because of that too right?”

“You...you know about it?”

“Of course I would know it. He promised to never lied to me and you know that he’s the man of his promise right? And afterall...he is my father”

“I...I see...”

“Listen to me. What do you think I did all this hard work within 2 days for? It’s to show you that I’m perfectly okay with my life. I’ve accept my fate since long ago and that’s the very reason why I’m trying hard to make it valuable. You don’t need to worry about it. Don’t you dare to worry about it”

“I...I’m sorry...”

He return to his usual seat after saying that. I can feel his anger and disappointment despite his calm talk. I don’t have anymore courage to look at his face. I feel so guilty to meddle too deep in his life. It’s better if know nothing in the first place.

I don’t know how many minutes has been passed, but this dead silence feels like suffocating me for years. I really want to escape from this situation and disappear right away if only I got a little courage to talk.

“I didn’t get any rest for the past two days that I missed my bed so bad right now. You can stay if you want, but don’t forget to close the door when you go home”

“I...I’ll go home now, I think I need to rest too”

Just the moment I think when would I got the chance to disappear from his life forever, he make it right away. I stand from my chair and walk out with a fast step without any second though. But right before I passed the exit door, he suddenly called me again.

“Merpati...”

“Y...yes?”

“Please come again tomorrow. I’ll be waiting for the usual cheerful you in this very same laboratory. I need a partner and you’ll help me with my newest idea, deal?”

He don’t know how much that last sentence save me from desperation and how much I wish for it. He’s really a magician that always know how to amaze me, he truly is.

“Yes! Deal! I’ll come again tomorrow, I’ll come for sure. Just you wait!”

Spoiler: Light - Part 2

August 17th, 2014

Months has been passed since then. The light road that he diligently made at last reached its end. Just yesterday afternoon he said that we can finalize our research because we have finished completing all possible related variable and sucessfully correlate it into three general formula. I don’t know how to express it properly but I’m so happy to hear that, much more than I though. I got too hyped that I started to singing and talking non stop like 5 years old naughty girl. It’s really surprised how I can wrote the report with sound speed while talking that much, and I became more noisy after he agreed with my proposal to throw a big party as celebration for completing the final report that night.

It’ll stay as truth, it should be the truth…until his first detereorating symptoms comes in the next morning.

August 18th, 2014

Here I am tonight, in a small all white room that reeks of medicine. It’s still hard to believe how happy I was yesterday. Now all I do was nothing but looking at his sleeping face in this hospital bed. It hurt my heart just by seeing the bandage that covering both of his eyes. Doctor said that they have to take his “sight” to slowing down his second deterioration phase, and there will be no the third. That’s not for long though, but they say that’s all what they can do to fulfill his desperate wish. Damn you stupid nerd, why should you prolong your life if it’s so painful to you? Why can’t you make it easier for your self?

“Merpati…”

“Yes?”

“ah…I’know it’s you…I’m glad it’s you…”

I tried really hard to hold my emotions to act normal. I feel happy that he recognized me. I feel so happy that he feel glad to knew it was me. Yet his weak hand that I hold dearly right now showing me how weak his current body is and it makes me feel so sad.

I feel pressure from his suddenly tightening grab. I look at his face then realize that he want to say something. I move to get closer to him so I can hear him better and I can see him smiled when I do that. He said that he feel glad that I can understand his little gesture meaning. Then he start to telling me his story in murmur voice.

It’s just like law of nature. The more intense something being used, the faster it’ll broken. The very similar phenomenon happened to him. With so many knowledge stored inside his head, he realize right away that his body couldn’t stand for long. The way he absorb new information, learn it, and freely used it anytime he want just way too unnatural. Then soon after that he come into conclusion that it was his anomality in neural system that causing that. What’s that left is, what’s the drawback? He began to scared to imagine when his tired cells starting to die? What would he lost first? Which sense? Or will it directly attack his brain so that makes him a living corpse? The though has became scary and scarier that he start to lock him self in his own room.

He’s lucky that in the middle of desperation, someone never tired to whispered to his ear while hugging him each day…and every passing night. Told him that anyone born with purpose. That anyone have their own mission to completed. Most of them born normal or even less, but some of them given an outstanding gift that with it they could conquer all the others…or use it to help the others.



“I know you’re a bright and kind child, Giande. Everyones knows. There’s nothing you need to fear for because nobody will left you when you fall. Nobody will ever hate you because you’re too kind to be hated. But even if it’s not, I’ll always by your side to support you, my son”.

The words slowly come into his sense that he began to see things in a different way. The never ending parental love that was continuously given to him by his patience father, really served it’s purpose. Giande promised to him self that all the love he recieved will be worth, and he’ll strive to pay it back in full.

“sorry for not telling you the truth up until now”

“…I won’t forgive you”

“Haha, I know. But still, I’m sorry..”

Again, why this stupidity of mine still exist even in situation like this. Why can’t I become more honest even after arrive at this point.

“Hhhh…what a pity, I can’t even see the thing I want to see the most even if it stand before me right now, and I know precisely what would come next. This is the end for me, haha”

“I’ll be your eyes. I’ll read any book you want to read. I’ll describe everything around you and anything you want to see in perfect detail. I’ll explain it as many time you want me to say. I’ll make it clear for you as you can see it in a bright day. Let me be your eyes…please let me be your eyes…please live…”

“I’m glad to hear that, but you don’t need to do it. My life is not that long anyway, haha..”

“No!…please..never say something like that..”

“..Merpati..”

“Yes!”

“…thank…you…”

He stop moving after saying that last words. He wont respond me even if I call his name repeatedly in desperation. I got really scared and rushly runing outside to call for help. But despite all the efforts that was given by doctors to return his lost heart beat, he still refuse to come back. I know that I can’t hold these tears any longer. I’m crying while holding his hand that starting to get cold. I never though that loosing him will cause me this much suffering. It torn my heart deeper than I ever imagine.

“He already live his life to the fullest, dove. I deeply thank you for being with him even for a short duration of time” said Porfessor from behind while put his hand onto my right shoulder. “Now it’s your turn. Just three days ago he ask me to give his research patent to you, hoping you can live a sufficient and happy life”

“What? No, no Professor, I can’t accept it, and more, I don’t want it…I don’t deserve it…”

“Please…accept his will dove. By doing so you can make this old man happy too. His present to you just indicate that he have found the most precious thing in his life, another light that never failed to make him smile even in the peak of his suffering, that’s you. Please hold it proudly”

Professor Ryrien pat my head from behind while saying those words. Damn him, how can he make me crying out loud for one more time.

“If…if only he got just a little bit more of time…I…”

“I know dove…I know what you wanted to say….”

He has suffered for long enough. He purposedly create a thick wall to all those around him even if he knew it’s eating him badly inside. He let the whole world despising him to ensure that nobody ever wanted to get close to him. He sacrifice all of his freedom for the sake of this research.
