Ini kan thread Legendary Sword bukan Legendary Weapon. Seperti kata Raestloz, kalo cuma disangkutin ama legenda doank sih semua senjata legenda masuk donk kaya Mjollnir gituan.

@Raestloz. Hoo gitu, baru tau toh Joyeuse pindah tangan.

La Joyeuse bukan sekedar "pindah tangan" kayak "serah terima" gitu :) ceritanya sih, waktu itu Joan bilang "Tuhan sudah menyiapkan pedang untuk saya di bawah gereja St. Catherine"

La Joyeuse sendiri dapetnya bukan kayak tersimpan di ruang bawah tanah gitu, tapi digali dari bawah lantai gereja St. Catherine :D keren kan? Pas digali kondisi La Joyeuse masih bagus, dengan fleur-de-lis di gagangnya masih terlihat jelas

Ini bedanya sejarah Indonesia sama Eropa, rakyat Eropa masih inget properti rajanya dan dihormati, rakyat Indonesia liat properti raja besok berubah jadi 50 ribuan di kantong :shuriken:

Wow pengetahuannya luas juga si bos.
Disini sih dah dibeliin ama orang luar gan. :th_093:

Sori kalo OOT. Biar jelas doank. Kalo salah, mohon diralat.

    General Army Sword :

    Broadsword
A family of Renaissance cavalry and military swords... well known in English...

    Dao
A category of single-edge Chinese swords primarily used for slashing and chopping.
In China, the Dao is known as one of the four major weapons, along with the Gun (staff), Qiang (spear), and the Jian (sword).

    Falchion/Cutlass => Tuck => Sabre
Falchion in French, also known as Cutlass in English (16th & 17th C). The weapon combined the weight and power of an axe with the versatility of a sword. This sword, known as a tuck, was carried by musketeers and pikemen during the English Civil War and was used for slashing when the tightly-packed pike and shot formations clashed. These swords were of poor quality and mostly blunt as they were used by the soldier to chop firewood. This remained in service after the Civil War, used by cavalry and eventually evolving to the sabres of the 18th century.

    Shotel
A shotel is a curved sword originating in Abyssinia (ancient Ethiopia). The Abyssinians did not use any fencing techniques, so these blades were not used to slice or cut through but to hook the opponent by reaching around. Macam scyte gitu kali...

    Machete
Machete may also be classified as a basic sword. Machetes were the primary weapon used by the Interahamwe militias in the Rwandan Genocide, as well as the distinctive tool/weapon of the Haitian Tonton Macoute.

    Shamshir (Persians)
Sabre with a curve that is considered radical for a sword: 5 to 15 degrees from tip to tip. One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber. Shamshir Shikargar is the same as a shamshir, except the blade is engraved and decorated, usually with hunting scenes.

    Kilij (Turkish)
The Kilij, as a specific type of sabre associated with the Ottoman Turks and the Mamluks of Egypt, was recognisable by the late 15th century. One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber.

    Saif (Saudi Arabia)
These swords are the early medieval era Arabian swords, which were straight, short and double edged, much like the Late Roman Spatha. One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber.

    Pulwar (Afghanistan)
A pulwar (also spelled pulouar) is a single handed curved sword from Afghanistan and neigbouring regions of Pakistan and Northwestern India. One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber.

    Scimitar
Sword with a curved blade design finding its origins in Southwest Asia (Middle East). One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber.

    Tulwar (India)
The tulwar is an Indian sword influenced by the Persian shamshir and the Turkish kilic. One of radically curved sword family, which were developed from the ubiquitous parent sword, the Turko-Mongol saber.

    Rapier
Rapier generally refers to a relatively long-bladed sword characterized by a complex hilt which is constructed to provide protection for the hand wielding it. Relatively slender, sharply pointed sword, used mainly for thrusting attacks, mainly in use in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.

    Spatha
Spatha was a type of straight sword with a long point, measuring between 0.75 and 1 m, in use throughout 1st millennium Europe and the territory of the Roman Empire until about AD 600. The predecessor of the spatha is the 3rd century BC (La Tène) Celtic sword.

    Walloon Sword
This weapon was common in Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia and the Netherlands where it was known as a Pappenheimer after Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim, a German general in the 30 Years War where the Walloon sword were used by both sides.

    Schiavona
Schiavona was a Renaissance sword that became popular in Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries.

    Mortuary Sword
Mortuary sword was used after 1625 by cavalry during the English Civil War. This (usually) two-edged sword sported a half-basket hilt with a straight blade some 90-105 cm long. These hilts were often of very intricate sculpting and design. This sword was Oliver Cromwell's weapon of choice; the one he owned is now preserved in the Royal Armouries Museum in London.

    Gladius
Ancient Roman swords were similar to those used by the Greeks. A fully-equipped Roman soldier would have been armed with a shield (scutum), several javelins (pila), a sword (gladius), probably a dagger (pugio) and perhaps a number of darts (plumbatae).

    Claymore
Used by Scotish people for clan war... (well known clan : Highlander clan)

    The Sword of King Goujian
    [IMG][IMG]
    Owner Goujian (King of Yue)
    Source Chinese History

    Descript.
There are eight characters chiseled on the sword reading "yuewang Goujian, zizuo yongjian", which means "the sword was made by King Goujian of Yue for his own use". The sword has good toughness and is not easily broken.

    Story
The sword of Goujian is an important bronze weapon in China's Spring and Autumn Period. The words on the sword body suggest that its owner was Goujian – the King of the Yue State. Unearthed in 1965 in the Chu Tomb of Hubei Province, the sword measures 55.6cm in length, with exquisite black rhombic etchings covered all over the body and blue glaze and turquoise imbedded on the sword handle. Through experts' interpretation of the eight zhuan (seal) characters on the body, the sword was testified to be the legendary sword of Goujian. What's amazing is that the sword, crowned as "the best sword under heaven", though having gone through a history of over 2400 years, is still as sharp as it used to be and not a single tiny rusty spot can be found on the body. The sword has incurred various speculations for being rustproof, which, without doubt, forcefully evidences that the sword-casting technique had reached a high level in the Wu and Yue regions in Southern China during the Spring and Autumn Period.
In the history of China, the story of Goujian and Fuchai (King of the Wu state) contending for hegemony is known by almost every household. At first Yue was defeated by Wu. However, Goujian was finally able to take revenge and lead his army to victory 10 years later following the humiliation of sleeping on thorny firewood and eating the bile from a gallbladder every day. The legendary story of Goujian no doubt adds some magic glamour on the sword, which has now become the most valuable treasure of Jinzhou Museum, Hubei Province.

    Claymore Braveheart
    [IMG]
    Owner William Wallace
Source Scotish History (Battle of Stirling Bridge and Battle of Falkirk)

    Description
It is a massive two-handed Claymore that gives off an aura of the great man who wielded it. It is said to have been used by William Wallace at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 and the Battle of Falkirk (1298), however the weapon is of much later provenance.

The blade of the sword measures 4 feet 4 inches in length (132cm) and including the handle 5 feet 6 inches (168cm)[1]. The breadth of the blade varies from 2.25 inches at the guard to 0.75 inches before the point. The sword weighs 6 lb (2.7 kg).

    Story
    The Battle of Stirling Bridge
On 11 September 1297, Wallace won the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Although vastly outnumbered, the Scottish forces led by Wallace and Andrew Moray routed the English army. The Earl of Surrey's professional army of 3,000 cavalry and 50,000 infantry met disaster as they crossed over to the north side of the river. The narrowness of the bridge prevented many soldiers from crossing together (possibly as few as three men abreast), so while the English soldiers crossed, the Scots held back until half of them had passed and then killed the English as quickly as they could cross.

A pivotal charge, led by one of Wallace's captains, caused some of the English soldiers to retreat as others pushed forward, and under the overwhelming weight, the bridge collapsed and many English soldiers drowned. Harry claims that the bridge was rigged to collapse by the action of a man hidden beneath the bridge. The Scots won a significant victory which boosted the confidence of their army. Hugh Cressingham, Edward's treasurer in Scotland, died in the fighting and it is reputed that his body was subsequently flayed and the skin cut into small pieces as tokens of the victory. The Lanercost Chronicle records that Wallace had "a broad strip [of Cressingham’s skin] ... taken from the head to the heel, to make therewith a baldrick for his sword". William Crawford led 400 Scottish heavy cavalry to complete the action by running the English out of Scotland. It is widely believed that Moray died of wounds suffered on the battlefield sometime in the winter of 1297, but an inquisition into the affairs of his uncle, Sir William Moray of Bothwell, held at Berwick in late November 1300, records he was "slain at Stirling against the king."

Upon his return from the Battle of Stirling Bridge, Wallace was knighted along with his second-in-command John Graham and his third-in-command William Crawford, possibly by Robert the Bruce, and Wallace was named "Guardian of Scotland and Leader of its armies".

In the six months following Stirling Bridge, Wallace led a raid into northern England. His intent was to take the battle to English soil to demonstrate to Edward that Scotland also had the power to inflict the same sort of damage south of the border. Edward was infuriated but he refused to be intimidated.
    Battle of Falkirk
A year later, Wallace lost the Battle of Falkirk. On 1 April 1298, the English invaded Scotland at Roxburgh. They plundered Lothian and regained some castles, but had failed to bring Wallace to combat. The Scots adopted a scorched-earth policy in their own country, and English quartermasters' failure to prepare for the expedition left morale and food low, but Edward's search for Wallace would not end at Falkirk.

Wallace arranged his spearmen in four "schiltrons" — circular, hedgehog formations surrounded by a defensive wall of wooden stakes. The English gained the upper hand, however, attacking first with cavalry, and breaking up the Scottish archers. Under the command of the Scottish nobles, the Scottish knights withdrew, and Edward's men began to attack the schiltrons. It remains unclear whether the infantry firing bolts, arrows and stones at the spearmen proved the deciding factor, although it is very likely that it was the arrows of Edward's bowmen.

Either way, gaps in the schiltrons soon appeared, and the English exploited these to crush the remaining resistance. The Scots lost many men. Wallace escaped, though his military reputation suffered badly. John Graham was killed and William Crawford became Wallace's second. According to one account, during his flight Wallace fought and killed Brian de Jay, master of the English Templars in a thicket at Callander.

By September 1298, Wallace had decided to resign as Guardian of Scotland in favour of Robert Bruce, Earl of Carrick, and John Comyn of Badenoch, ex-King John Balliol's brother-in-law. Bruce became reconciled with King Edward in 1302, while Wallace spurned such moves towards peace.

According to Harry, Wallace left with William Crawford in late 1298 on a mission to the court of King Philip IV of France to plead the case for assistance in the Scottish struggle for independence. Backing this claim is a surviving letter from the French king dated 7th of November 1300 to his envoys in Rome demanding that they should help Sir William. Whether or not Wallace made it to Rome is unsure. Harry also states that on their trip down the English coast, the small convoy ran into the infamous pirate Thomas Longoville, also known as the Red Reiver for his red sails and ruthless raids. Hiding in the hold of the ship while Crawford and a small contingent of men sailed, Wallace surprised the pirates as they boarded the ship. Longoville was captured and taken to Paris where the Scots convinced Philip to grant amnesty so that Longoville could prey on English ships. This last story is one of many recorded by Blind Harry for which there is no evidence. Harry also invented a major action against Edward I at Biggar, which, though often cited, never actually occurred.

In 1303, Squire Guthrie was sent to France to ask Wallace and his men to return to Scotland, which they did that same year. They slipped in under the cover of darkness to recover on the farm of William Crawford, near Elcho Wood. Having heard rumours of Wallace's appearance in the area, the English moved in on the farm. A chase ensued and the band of men slipped away after being surrounded in Elcho Wood. Here, Wallace took the life of one of his men that he suspected of disloyalty, in order to divert the English from the trail.

    Damascus Sword
    [IMG][IMG]
    Forged by Damascus Swordsmith (Syiria)

    Description
Made of Damascus Steel, a semi-mythical alloy that is both hard and flexible.
The extreme strength, sharpness and resilience of swords made from Damascus steel has resulted in them being spoken of in the same tone as myths and legends.

    Story
The legendary sword known as the Damascus steel intimidated the European invaders into the 'Holy Lands' of the Islamic civilization throughout the Crusades (AD 1095-1270). Blacksmiths in Europe attempted to match the steel, using the pattern welding technique of alternating layers of steel and iron, folding and twisting the metal during the forging process. (Pattern welding was a technique used by swordmakers from around the world, including Celts of the 6th century BC, Vikings of the 11th century AD and the 13th century Japanese.) In some cases, the European blacksmiths etched the blade or overlaid the surface of the blade with silver or copper filigree to imitate the characteristic watery lines of the Damascus steel blade. Some scholars credit this search for the Damascus steel process as the origins of modern materials science. But the European blacksmiths never duplicated the solid core Damascus steel, and the secret of its construction was lost even to the Islamic blacksmiths in the mid-18th century.

New studies of Damascus swords are revealing that the legendary blades contain nanowires, carbon nanotubes, and other extremely small, intricate structures that might explain their unique features. What!!... nanotechnology in the eighth century A.D?

    Lha?

    Susanoo's ten-span sword
Owner Susanoo (Shinto god of the sea and storms)
Source Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan)

    Story
The oldest sources for Susano’o myths are the ca. 680 CE Kojiki and ca. 720 CE Nihon Shoki. They tell of a long-standing rivalry between Susano’o and his sister. When he was to leave Heaven by orders of Izanagi, he went to bid his sister goodbye. Amaterasu was suspicious, but when Susano’o proposed a challenge to prove his sincerity, she accepted. Each of them took an object of the other's and from it birthed gods and goddesses. Amaterasu birthed three women from Susano’o's sword while he birthed five men from her necklace. Claiming the gods were hers because they were born of her necklace, and the goddesses were his, he decided that he has won the challenge, as his item produced women. The two were content for a time, but Susano’o, the Storm God, became restless and went on a rampage destroying his sister's rice fields, hurled a flayed pony at her loom, and killed one of her attendants in a fit of rage. Amaterasu, who was in fury and grief, hid inside the Ama-no-Iwato ("heavenly rock cave"), thus effectively hiding the sun for a long period of time.

First Side: "At noon on the sixteenth day of the eleventh month, fourth year of Tàihé period, the sword was made of 100 times hardened steel. Using the sword repels 100 enemy soldiers. Appropriate for the polite duke king."
Second Side: "Never before has there been such a blade. The crown prince of Baekje's king, who lives under august sounds, had this sword made for King of Wa in the hope that it might be passed on to later generations."

    Story
Appear in Nihon Shoki Ch 09 (Okinaga Tarashihime no Mikoto/Empress Jingu). It was given to the Yamato king by the king of Baekje, a former kingdom on the Korean peninsula. The sword has been kept in Isonokami shrine since ancient times, perhaps as early as the 4th century when it was received from Baekje. It was rediscovered in 1873, and its gold inlaid inscription has proven to be a valuable historical resource. It is currently not available for public viewing.

Analysis and archeology have suggested that the sword's origins lie in Korea. The sword's peculiar design - with the tip of the blade counting as the 'seventh' branch, is indicative of contemporary Korean tree-motifs. Other examples of this motif include the Baekje Crown and the Silla Crown. If the weapon had indeed been produced in Korea it would have represented one of the prime artistic accomplishments of Baekje swordsmithery

    Descript.
    Takemikazuchi's divine sword.

    Story
At the time of Emperor Jinmu's campaign to the east, Amaterasu ordered Takemikazuchi to assist the beleaguered Jinmu, whereupon Takemikazuchi miraculously sent his divine sword Futsu no mitama to appear in the warehouse of Takakuraji in Kumano. Takakuraji found the sword and presented it to Jinmu, whereupon Jinmu was enabled to complete his campaign. In Sendai kuji hongi, Futsu no mitama is called "Futsunushi no kami's sword of spirit," presented by Jinmu to Umashimaji as a prize for killing Nagasunehiko and submitting to the imperial forces. It is believed to represent a divine sword worshiped by the martial clan Mononobe, who were instrumental in the early pacification of Japan, and is enshrined as the central deity (saijin) of Isonokami Jingū and other shrines.

    Story
The Graves of Three Kings :
Gangjiang and Moye, who were husband and wife and lived in the state of Chu, were obliged to forge swords for the king. Three years had passed before they could finally produce them. Annoyed, the king intended to kill Ganjiang. The couple made two swords, one male, the other female. Just then Moye, the wife, was about to give birth to a child. The husband said to her,"Since it has taken me three long years to make the swords, the king must be angry. It is certain that he will put me to death when I go and present the swords to him. If the child turns out to be a boy, tell him this as soon as he is grown up, `Go out of the house, look at the southern mountains and search for the place where a pine tree is growing on a rock. Try to find one of the swords on its back.'" After he had said this, Ganjiang left for the palace with the female sword. The king became furious when he saw only one sword, and ordered it to be examined. When he was told that there were actually two swords, one male and the other female, and that the one he saw was female, while the male one was not there, the king flew into a rage and had Ganjiang beheaded at once.

Moye named her son Chibi. When he grew up, he asked her, "Where is my father?" "Your father once had to forget two swords for the king," Moye replied, "and it took him three years to finish them. The king killed him in a fury. Before he left home, your father asked me to give you this message, 'Go out of the house, look at the southern moun tains and search for the place where a pine tree is growing on a rock. Try to find one of the swords on its back.'" So the boy ran out of the house and looked south, but he saw no mountain at all. Then his eyes fell on a stone plinth in front of the house, with a pine pillar on its top. Chibi hurried to cleave the pillar from behind. Sure enough, there was the male sword. From that time on, Chibi planned day and night to avenge his father.

The king had a dream one night, in which he saw a boy, whose eyebrows were one foot apart from each other, swearing to take vengeance for his father's death. The king offered a reward of one-thousand taels of gold for the capture of the young lad. Chibi heard the news and had to take to the mountains. On his way he went singing sad songs, when a stranger came up and asked, "Why are you so sad, young man?" "I am the son of Ganjiang and Moye," replied the boy. "Because the king killed my father, I'm determined to take revenge." At this, the stranger said, "People say that the king has set a price of one-thousand taels of gold on your head. If you could give me your head and the sword, I would take revenge for you." "Good!" said the boy. He cut off his own head and handed it, together with the sword, to the stranger. But his body stood where it was until the man vowed, "I will not let you down!"

The king was pleased when he saw the boy's head. "Since this is a brave man's head," said the man, "it should be boiled in a cauldron to prevent further trouble." This the king did. Three days and three nights went by, but the head remained intact. And it was bobbing on the water, the eyes burning with anger. "The head will not decompose," the stranger said to the king, "would you just come over and take a close look. Then it will surely go." The king came. As soon as he bent forward, the stranger swung his sword and chopped off the king's head, which dropped into the cauldron. This done, the man killed himself, his head also falling into the broth. In no time, the three heads became mashed and were no longer recognizable. Later, the broth, with what was left of the heads, was divided into three parts and buried in three graves, which came to be called "the Graves of Three Kings." Today they can still be found in Yichun County north of Runan.

    Shichiseiken
Enshrined in Shitennou-ji Temple (Osaka City)

    Descript.
Shichseiken or Seven Star Sword is a Japanese sword that is 62.1cm in length and belongs to the Shitennou-ji Temple located in Shitennouji-ku, Oosaka City, Oosaka. It is designated as a National Treasure.

    Story
Shitennou-ji Temple was built by Shoutoku Taishi in 598 and it is sacred to Kukanzeonbosatsu.
Along with Heishishourinken, another sword that is also kept in Shitennou-ji, Shichiseiken is said to have been much loved by Shoutoku Taishi.
The name Seven Star Sword came from the fact that the sword is engraved with seven golden stars in the shape of a plough, using a technique called zougan. Additionally, the front side of the sword is carved with 5 asukagumo, using the golden zogan technique and at both ends of the seven stars, there are three V-shaped stars and three stars aligned with a blue dragon and a white tiger. The back of the sword is also engraved with asukagumo, seven stars, a blue dragon and a white tiger.
Shichiseiken, by comparison to Heishishourinken, has a more noticeable residual metal substance called suragu, however, it uses a finer raw metal called koitame-hada and it has a hososugu blade.
Shichiseiken is a historically valuable sword that has been carefully preserved from an ancient period.
