Lucio signs for Juventus

Lucio has completed a move to Juventus. The Brazilian defender joins the Bianconeri on a free transfer and has signed a two-year contract, keeping him with the club until 30 June 2014.



Lucio, a wealth of experience

Lucio, an uncompromising central defender boasting a touch of class, will guarantee a reassuring presence at the heart of the Bianconeri rearguard.

Born in Brazil in 1978, he began his professional career in his homeland, signing for Sport Club Internacional in 1997. His steady defensive displays caught the eye of German club Bayer Leverkusen, who swooped to bring him to Europe in January 2001.

Lucio’s stay in Germany would last until 2009, spending four seasons with Leverkusen, where he formed part of the team’s run to the Champions League final, before transferring to Bayern Munich.

Success duly followed in the form of three Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokal trophies and three DFB Super Cups.

His hunger for victory continued when he joined Inter in 2009, adding the Scudetto, Champions League, Club World Cup, two Coppa Italia triumphs and an Italian Super Cup to his already impressive list of honours.

The defender has carried his winning mentality onto the international stage, lifting the World Cup in Japan and Korea in 2002 and celebrating Confederations Cup successes in 2005 and 2009.

Such characteristics prompted Juventus to move fast to secure his services, equipping Antonio Conte with an experienced, top class defender to help defend last season’s Scudetto title.



Italian Super Cup to be played on 11 August

Juventus will take on Napoli in Peking in their first official encounter of the season.

The Italian Super Cup clash, to be played on Saturday 11 August, will be contested in the Chinese capital after the Serie A League officially approved the fixture earlier today.



Juventus confirm friendly fixtures

It looks set to be a fascinating pre-season for Juventus after the club officially confirmed three friendly fixtures to be contested between the end of the summer training camp in Chatillon and the Italian Super Cup game against Napoli in Peking. These will be played in place of the tournament in the USA.

Five days after departing Val d’Aosta, Conte’s men will fly to Germany to face Hertha Berlin on Saturday 28 July. The Blue-Whites will now be plying their trade outside the top flight following last season’s relegation, but still remain one of the most important clubs in German football after winning the Bundesliga twice.

Juventus will then move on to Switzerland to play Benfica in Geneva on Wednesday 1 August. The Portuguese giants enjoyed a solid run in last season’s Champions League before being eliminated at the quarter-final stage by eventual winners Chelsea. They boast a proud history, having won 27 championships and two European Cups since their foundation in 1904.

The Bianconeri will contest the last of these three friendly fixtures against Malaga in Salerno on Saturday 4 August. The Spanish outfit, whose fourth-place finish in La Liga secured qualification to the Champions League preliminary stages, will provide the opposition at the Stadio Arechi.



Bonucci, Ranocchia interviews booked

Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci and Inter’s Andrea Ranocchia have had interviews confirmed for their alleged involvement in the betting scandal.

Investigations into the match-fixing and illegal betting scandal to have hit the Italian game this year are now entering a stage where a number of individuals alleged to have been involved or had some knowledge will be quizzed by prosecutors.

The Federation recently confirmed interview dates for Walter Mazzarri and Antonio Conte, plus a number of current and retired footballers.

Former Bari teammates Bonucci and Ranocchia have now been added to the schedule and the duo will appear before investigators on the same day, to take questions on the investigation into Bari’s alleged involvement in the entire affair.

Brescia must let El Kaddouri leave

Omar El Kaddouri’s agent is keen for his client to be allowed to leave Serie B outfit Brescia this summer, amid links to Serie A and Juventus.

The Belgian midfielder is reportedly in agreement with the Bianconeri over a future transfer, but his agent yesterday suggested that Brescia are holding up the switch because of their transfer fee demands.

Speaking today on the issue, Daniele Striani suggested that the club should consider meeting the player’s wish to leave.

“I spoke yesterday with President Corioni for 45 minutes, and whilst it is right that Brescia have their own interests in mind, the player has made a choice,” El Kaddouri’s representative told Radio Calciomercato on Wednesday.

“He played virtually for free for a long time, his attachment to the cause at Brescia has already been shown, now it would be appropriate that the other party do the same.

“This is a player who has had a good season and seen his prospects grow significantly.

“His future? At this time there are only two options - Juventus immediately, with the possibility of a loan to another Serie A club, or we wait for his contract to expire in 2013.

“We do not intend to evaluate any other possibilities.”



Destro with Siena for pre-season

Transfer target to a number of clubs in Serie A this summer, Mattia Destro will begin pre-season with Siena, confirms their President.

The striker, now co-owned between the Tuscans and Genoa, has been the subject of numerous transfer links in anticpation of a summer switch, having impressed with Siena last term in Serie A.

However, even with Inter, Roma, Milan and Juventus forming an orderly queue, the striker is set to begin pre-season work with Siena.

“The player is half ours, he will be called up for the ritiro with Siena and only then will we see if there are any developments,” Massimo Mezzaroma declared to reporters outside the Lega Serie A offices this afternoon.

“We have no favoured clubs in talks [for Destro], this is a market, and how one conducts business is to sell the best fruit at the best price.

“Today, the boy is thinking about getting in shape for the start of the season. Then, wherever he will play, he will play.

“He owes so much to the work done last year and he has much more to give, we will see, certainly.

“If the right offer does not come in then he will stay with us, but, he is a very important player, not just for Siena but for Italian football.

“And, I think that it is necessary that for his development he takes to a higher level.”



Destro wants big club

Mattia Destro insists there is no problem between Genoa and Siena, but still feels inclined to public appeal to them to sell him to a big club this summer.

The striker, who spent last term on loan with Siena, impressed enough to attract a list of admirers that include Inter, Milan, Juventus and Roma.

Genoa believed that Siena would send him back to them this summer, but at the last moment the Tuscans excerisced their right in the original agreement to purchase 50 per cent of his contract.

It has reportedly hit relations between the two clubs and delayed Destro’s otherwise expected move elsewhere.

However, the player himself, who begins pre-season with Siena, insists that a move is still likely and very possible for his two owners to agree upon.

“I hope that, knowing [Siena President Massimo] Mezzaroma and [Genoa President Enrico] Preziosi, will have the good sense to agree and give me the chance to go and play for a big team like the ones that have asked for me.

“I hope that we can reach an agreement. Honestly, the relationship is fine between the two clubs. I think there are no problems with this particular situation.

“Where do I prefer to go? Definitely I can say that I have motivation and the utmost confidence to compete on a par with all other attackers.

“Then, it’s up to me to rightly prove whether or not I am ready to do so, and I know that I can do so.”



Official: Lucio signs for Juventus

Less than a week on from rescinding his contract with Inter, Brazilian centre-back Lucio agrees a deal to join rivals Juventus.

The 34-year-old cancelled his contract with the Nerazzurri last Friday and was otherwise expected to move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

However, reports quickly linked him with Juventus and suggested that a deal was agreed within hours of his departure from San Siro.

Confirmation came this morning as the player arrived in Turin to conclude negotiations and have his medical and upon completion of both, was confirmed as a Bianconero via a brief statement on Juve’s official website.

“Lucio is a Juventus player. The Brazilian defender arrives on a free and has signed a two-year contract, binding him to Juventus until June 30, 2014.”

This confirmation was quickly followed by an interview with the defender.

“I’m happy, it’s a new experience, a new chapter in my life and I’m now looking forward,” Lucio told Juventus Channel.

“The past will stay with me, but I’m aiming to enjoy success again.

“I think the most important thing is today and tomorrow. Yesterday is already history and I believe that the motivation needs to be right.

“You have to train every and play with the right mentality, which is to do your best to win.

“Juventus have always been a strong side, I also said that when I came to Italy for the first time, Juve will always be Juve.

“It’s clear their motivation is greater with the new stadium. The support is incredibly strong and certainly pushes the team to go forward with greater enthusiasm. It’s definitely an added weapon to Juve’s armoury.”

Juventus signed Andrea Pirlo last summer in similar circumstances, after his release from rivals Milan.
