Uli Hoeness: Jika Gagal Juara Bundesliga, Bayern Munich Harus Raih Trofi Liga Champions

Final Liga Champions musim ini berlangsung di Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich ingin menjadi juara di depan publiknya.

Presiden Uli Hoeness mengatakan dirinya tidak akan menyesalkan kegagalan Bayern Munich menjuarai Bundesliga musim ini, jika Jupp Heynckes dan skuadnya mencapai final Liga Champions dan menjuarainya.

Hoeness akan berulang tahun ke-60 pada pekan pertama Januari 2012. Menurutnya, hadiah terbaik yang layak diterimanya adalah trofi Liga Champions, kendati Bayern Munich mungkin gagal menjuarai Bundesliga.

"Saya ingin kebahagian yang sangat jarang diperoleh," ujar Hoeness kepada Sky Sport News.

Menurut Hoeness, banyak yang mengatakan gelar Bundesliga jauh lebih penting. Namun untuk saat ini, katanya, yang terpenting bagi Bayern Munich adalah gelar Liga Champions.

Final Liga Champions musim ini akan digelar di Allianz Arena. Sebagai tuan rumah, Bayern tidak ingin hanya menjadi penonton dan bertepuk tangan ketika tim lain meraih trofi.

Bagi pemain Bayern, final Liga Champions di kandang mereka hanya sekali sepanjang karier mereka. Bayern terakhir kali meraih gelar Liga Champions tahun 2001.

"Menjadi juara Liga Champions tidak hanya penting, tapi juga memberi dampak ekonomi," Hoeness mengakhiri.

The players are still on vacation, but activity long ago returned to the Säbener Strasse performance centre, as the kitmen and ground staff have been busily preparing for Tuesday’s first pre-season training session. Balls, boots, ropes and cones are ready and the new training kit distributed. The kit has also been personalised, as the squad numbers for the new campaign have now been finalised.

There are no changes for any of the players retained from last season’s squad. For example, Philipp Lahm will still wear number 21, Franck Ribéry the number 7, David Alaba the number 27 and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk his favoured number 44, which remains the highest shirt number in the squad.

Dante follows Schwarzenbeck

The club’s summer signings have naturally all been assigned new numbers – although in the case of Claudio Pizarro it is a return to familiar territory. The Peruvian wore the number 14 in his first spell with Bayern from 2001 to 2007 and has now reclaimed it on his return. Centre-back Dante has been assigned the number 4 previously worn by greats such as Katsche Schwarzenbeck, Sammy Kuffour and Thomas Linke.

Xherdan Shaqiri will wear the number 11, following on from the likes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Stefan Effenberg and Ivica Olic. In the tradition established by a number of previous back-up keepers, including Jörg Butt, Bernd Dreher and Michael Rensing, Tom Starke has opted for the number 22.

Weiser follows Hargreaves

Talented youngster Mitchell Weiser may be hoping for good luck and inspiration from the number 23 once worn by Owen Hargreaves, with reserve keeper Lukas Raeder choosing the number 32 previously favoured by Mats Hummels. For the two players promoted from the FCB junior team youth section, midfield gem Emre Can takes the number 36, and striker Patrick Weihrauch has the number 20, as once proudly worn by Hasan Salihamidzic.

Following an analysis of the 2011/12 season conducted by the FC Bayern Supervisory Board, the Board of Directors, and director of sport Christian Nerlinger, differences of opinion became clear regarding the strategy for the future of the team. As a result, FC Bayern and Christian Nerlinger agreed at the time to part company ahead of the 2012/13 season.

Due to the imminent EURO 2012 tournament and the turbulence which would reasonably be expected to arise from this decision, it was agreed to withhold the announcement of Christian Nerlinger’s departure until after the European championship.

Final talks regarding the appointment of Matthias Sammer as the club’s new “board director responsible for the professional playing staff” were thus only completed last weekend. Over the last two days, Matthias Sammer and FC Bayern reached agreement on the scope of his new appointment. Matthias Sammer has accordingly been released from his current duties with the German Football Association (DFB) in the course of Monday morning

Matthias Sammer is thus free to take up his duties as FC Bayern Munich “board member for sport” with immediate effect.

“On behalf of the club, I wish to expressly thank Christian Nerlinger for his work for FC Bayern over the last four years,“ commented FC Bayern Supervisory Board chairman Uli Hoeneß, “I very much hope our excellent personal relationship will continue as it is.“
