The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta is seeking an individual for the position of Information Specialist in the Public Affairs section (PAS).

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The incumbent is the Press Section’s Senior Information Specialist. The incumbent’s tasks are related to all aspects of press activities: overseeing production of daily products and translated publications; maintaining high-level contacts in Indonesia media and engaging in contact development within Media community including Public Relations associations and other influential communities; advising the PAO, IO, and AIO on all press matters; supervising four LES information assistants; and providing editor-level translation and oversight of team quality control for all translated material, including in-house publications or vendor generated content; assisting IO and AIO in conducting press events and organizing outreach programs. S/He also acts as interpreter as needed for VIPs and U.S. Embassy Officers.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor degree in the liberal arts, political science, economics, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, international relations or related field is required.

2. Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the print media as a journalist, editor, public relations or advertising specialist, or combination of similar experience is required with at least two years supervisory experience.

3. Level IV (fluent) in speaking/reading/writing both in English and Level IV (fluent) in Bahasa Indonesia is required. Must be able to translate quickly and with a high degree of accuracy.

4. Must have thorough knowledge of Indonesia’s media, political, economic, social, education environment and of key mass media, government, military, business and labor leader is necessary.

5. Must be at ease communicating with members of press, government and public; must possess excellent verbal and written Indonesian skills; able to plan and execute elements of overall information program including budget monitoring; must possess the combination of sound intellectual judgment, political awareness and professional knowledge necessary to advise the PAO, IO and AIO on selection and release of materials to media and public; must possess sufficient initiative to work independently and advises PAS officers proactively on media events and trends.

6. Must have strong supervisory and management skills and experience with event management and an ability to motivate staff in high pressure situations.
